Some of us might have simple resolutions like changing our pajama bottoms into slightly nicer pajama bottoms before attending a zoom meeting.
Others might have more ambitious resolutions such as exercising while juggling kids at home, cooking, cleaning, and, of course, attending more zoom meetings.
I have started working on my resolutions a bit early this year. Like many of you, 2020 did a number on my physical and mental health. Lately, I am focused on taking care of my body from the inside out.
I have been vocal about my battle with endometriosis and how much it has impacted my life. Until recently, I felt helpless but decided that I didn’t want to continue feeling like a prisoner in my own body, so I decided to make some lifestyle changes.
I no longer want to be an active participant in things that aren’t working for me. I figured, if the small changes I make can have even a marginal impact on my health, then it’s worth making.
I have been making smoothies daily, eating plenty of greens, staying hydrated, and exercising most days of the week (much to my body’s dismay), and so far, so good.
It is a lot of work to ensure that you fuel your body with the right foods, but it is well worth it.
For once, I am not eating my son’s leftover scraps or skipping meals because I’m too busy being a mom or a chef or a tutor and everything else under the sun.
It hasn’t been easy trying to put my health first proactively, but this year has taught me that I must put on my mask (literally and figuratively) before helping others.
During my great-health-awakening, I learned about the power of cranberries. I used to love cranberries during my college years and would snack on them daily.
I have recently started incorporating them into my diet after being reminded of the powerful benefits packed into these tiny berries.
If you’re looking to set some impactful but realistic resolutions for the next year, might I suggest making small dietary changes that pack a big punch, such as eating half a cup of cranberries every day?
Hear me out. Cranberries are SO good for you while also being tasty, so win-win!
Check out this short video which explains some of the health benefits of cranberries:
Just eating half a cup of cranberries a day can:
Cranberries are also rich in essential vitamins and minerals such as B vitamins, Vitamin C, magnesium, and potassium while also being a good fiber source. No wonder it’s a superfood!
They might be small, but they are mighty. Please don’t underestimate the cranberry when it comes to providing your body with essential nutrients.
So now that I’ve told you about how good cranberries are for your health, here are a few simple ways to incorporate them into your diet.
Regardless of how you choose to eat them, there is no doubt that cranberries are very beneficial for your health.
My favorite way to enjoy cranberries is in smoothie form.
The tart, sweet flavor is so satisfying and pairs exceptionally well with other fruits, especially oranges.
Check out my go-to cranberry smoothie recipe below.
Blend until smooth, and enjoy!
Since Christmas is right around the corner, you’re probably going to enjoy some delicious cranberry sauce, so why not continue to enjoy it throughout the year?
Whether fresh or frozen, cranberries should be enjoyed every season!
So now that you know the benefits of eating cranberries, will you be incorporating more cranberries into your diet in the new year or making any other dietary changes?
I would love to try some trusted new recipes with cranberries, so please share your favorite ways to ear cranberries in the comments below!

Being prepared by having the right postpartum care kit is so important for your postpartum recovery.
Postpartum recovery is no joke. You just gave birth! You created a human that came out of your body.
Do you even realize how incredible you are?
Postpartum recovery is exhausting and painful so you need to do everything you can to prepare yourself before baby comes.
Postpartum necessities make life so much easier because you have everything you need to speed up healing.
You’ve earned the right to feel good (duh, you just had a baby!), so don’t deprive yourself, especially when you need it most.
Have these postpartum essentials stocked and ready before you give birth to make your postpartum healing process more comfortable.
On that note, let’s teach you everything you need to know about postpartum healing.
You got this!
Promising Review:
GET THIS, you won’t regret it.
Let’s talk about what will happen immediately after you give birth.
Hugs, tears, joy and then, stitches.
Whether you’ve had an episiotomy (is when your doctor has to make an incision to make room for the baby) or natural tearing, you will need stitches.
Once you’re all stitched up and ready to go, you will probably be wheeled into your room where you will be given a peri-bottle but I highly suggest you bring your own.
Hold onto that peri bottle like your life depends on it because it will.
The relief you will get will be the difference between a burning vagina and a non-burning vagina every time you pee, and you will be peeing a lot.
If you have read my Hospital Bag Checklist, you know that I am a HUGE fan of the Frida Mom Peri Bottle.
Honestly, I need to tell my pregnant moms about this product because it is so, so good.
You will probably get a peri bottle from the hospital and you might think whatever, they are the same thing, right? Wrong.
You will be using the bathroom a lot in the first few weeks and things will be straight up gross down there and you might not have the time to shower as much as you’d like.
This product will help you in ways you couldn’t even imagine.
It will get all the *ahem* nooks and crannies if you know what I mean.
Promising Review:
If you’re contemplating wether or not these are worth purchasing, allow me to save you some brain energy – THEY ARE WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!
Since we’re on the topic of pads, let’s just go ahead and talk about the importance of postpartum padsicles and how to make them.
Prior to giving birth, you can simply soak and freeze the heavy-duty pads that you plan to use anyways postpartum.
For added relief, try adding organic aloe or witch hazel to the pads before freezing.
Game-changing life hack alert.
You can actually just get these postpartum ice packs with washable covers. Amazing. For maximum relief, try adding organic aloe to the pads.
Promising Review:
It’s a lifesaver for postpartum women!
You don’t realize how uncomfortable the basic act of sitting becomes after you have a baby.
Stash it in your car for the ride home because it’s going to feel a lot bumpier than you remember.
Promising Review:
These pads are so big, if Rose wore one on the Titanic, Jack would have survived.
Postpartum bleeding is heavy at least for the first week or two so you will definitely need the most absorbent pads of all time.
Take what you can from the hospital but buy extra for your stash at home.
Trust me, you do not want to be tending to a crying baby in the middle of the night only to realize that you’re out of pads.
I know this from experience.
Promising Review:
I used these in labor and post partum and they were amazing! Very comfortable, always felt dry, and the design is cute so it doesn’t feel like im wearing what i’m wearing. I recommend these to everyone going into labor.
I thought pads would be enough but I was wrong.
You need to use the heavy-duty pads along with postpartum underwear because regular undies just won’t do the trick.
You will want maximum comfort and absorbency, even after you’ve moved onto lighter flow pads.
Again, just trust me on this one. You won’t be sorry.
Promising Review:
SO, these saved my ass (literally) after I gave birth.
If you don’t feel like making your own postpartum padsicles or ran out, Tuck pads reign supreme when it comes to postpartum healing and for very good reason.
One pad will bring you immediate relief from itching and burning.
One container also has 100 pads so you will be covered during the entire postpartum healing phase.
Promising Review:
I’ve bought every single new mum this spray. It’s an absolute Godsend. If you’re considering whether or not to buy this, stop it. Just put it in your basket and thank yourself later.
If you’re wondering how to stop the itching and burning from stitches after giving birth, then I am here to tell you that perineal sprays will become your new best friend (along with everything else on this list).
This one from Earth Mama is a fan favorite because of its cooling and healing properties.
I suggest getting this one along with Dermoplast which is a hospital favorite.
Dermoplast has been described by some moms as a “miracle in a can”.
Pretty awesome, right?
If you’re wondering whether you should get the red or blue can of Dermoplastt, I would suggest going with the blue because some people have complained that the red actually makes the burning worse.
Throw both sprays into your postpartum care kit to make sure you’re covered (literally)!
Promising Review:
Probably TMI but I had a 3rd degree tear and I swear… this stuff was absolutely priceless
Another incredible life-hack for postpartum care is using a removable shower head for cleaning those tough to reach areas.
Promising Review:
This showerhead doesn’t just defy physics, it seems to break it.
Who uses the word showerhead in the same sentence as postpartum recovery? You, that’s who.
There are a lot of things you can do to soothe perineal pain and itching after giving birth but how genius is the showerhead hack?
The basic idea is that you need to keep the area clean, cool, and comfortable.
A removable shower head will help you do just that by getting into all the tough spots for maximum relief and cleanliness. Enough said!
Promising Review:
I’ve been using this Mighty Bliss heating pad for almost 4 months and I am positively THRILLED!!!
After I gave birth to my son, I remember feeling pain in places I didn’t even know I could feel pain.
My eyelids, in between my toes, the backs of my knees.
Everything hurt.
You will definitely experience muscle soreness and full-body pain from pushing out a baby, along with uterine cramping while your uterus shrinks back to its normal size.
Not only is a heating pad essential for all the body aches and pains you will experience after having a baby, it is is also great for releasing breast engorgement and even helping with clogged ducts.
A heating pad is absolutely necessary for postpartum care.
Body aching from pushing out a baby? Heating pad.
Slept in a weird position all night? Heating pad.
Pulled a muscle from rocking baby for 3 hours straight? You know the drill.
This is a necessary buy, not just for after giving birth but pretty much for life in general.
Promising Review:
These do not make you go like a laxative, or like a fiber product, it literally just makes your stool soft when you do go so you don’t end up with hemorrhoids and fissures.
The next two items, although gross are absolute lifesavers.
The first postpartum poop is a lot more unpleasant than it needs to be but you can alleviate some of the pain by using stool softeners.
Stool softeners will make things just a little bit easier to prevent applying any extra pressure to the perennial area.
The last thing anybody wants is, even more, tearing or a longer healing time because of trying to squeeze too hard, which brings me to my next favorite item.
Promising Review:
I love Squatty Potty and you will too. It works like a charm. You will wonder how you got along without it all these years.
If you don’t already own a squatty potty, you’re not living.
We know that squatting is the ideal way to poop but even more so postpartum for the reasons mentioned above.
Your system will be much easier to clear out when you’re sitting on the toilet in a squatting position.
I promise this is a worthy investment that you will use long after your postpartum days are behind you.
Promising Review:
New moms: BUY THIS. BUY STOCK IN IT. There are no amount of capital letters that can adequately express how much these helped me.
You’re probably starting to sense a theme year. The theme is pain and there will be lots of it.
My job is to make sure that I help you find all the things that will help you have less pain, which brings me to these cooling pads.
You’re probably not used to having a human constantly latching onto your nipples for like 23 hours a day.
Your nipples will be so sore from breastfeeding. Just like the cooling pads for your vagina, these cooling gel pads for your breasts will provide instant relief from sore nipples. Yay!
Promising Review:
Simply the best! No more sore nipples 🙂
Do you know what goes really well with sore nipples? A side of dry, cracked, and possibly bleeding nipples. This list just keeps getting better and better doesn’t it?
Your nipples will be taking a pretty wild ride during those first few weeks and they will have a lot of adjusting to do.
They might crack, they might bleed and they might hurt.
Never fear, nipple cream is here.
Nipple cream will provide you with soothing comfort to help with the dryness, itching, and chafing that comes with breastfeeding.
Promising Review:
Over the first 24hrs of having this I’ve pulled over 10oz of otherwised wasted milk! I can’t believe how well it works!
This product is absolutely genius and serves many purposes.
First and foremost, this manual breast pump will catch any leakage you have while breastfeeding which you can freeze for later or serve to your baby in a bottle.
The Haakaa pump will also help with engorgement as a few pumps will provide a lot of relief while preventing clogged ducts.
The best part? You just need to suction it onto your non-feeding breast and let the pump do the rest. Brilliant!
This crazy simple tip sounds like an absolute no brainer but a lot of moms only realize this once it is too late.
You are not going to be one of those moms.
The ONE thing you have to do to speed up postpartum recovery is to…stay regular!
That’s right! You’re a mom now so there will be lots of poop talk for many years to come.
Might as well get used to it by thinking about your own pooping habits.
The first postpartum poop and pee can be very painful but the worst thing you can do after birth is to not hydrate and enough eat nourishing foods.
Big mistake!
You NEED to stay regular to ensure no that there is no extra pressure on your perineum (which is the area between your vagina and your bum).
You should not strain the muscles in that region further by pushing too hard.
That’s why it is SUPER important to stay hydrated and regular right after giving birth to speed up postpartum recovery.
Giving birth is the most magical experience on earth and you deserve to soak up every blissful second with your newborn baby.
That is why preparing stocking up with all postpartum care items prior to giving birth is essential for a smooth postpartum recovery.
Although this list contains the items that are most common for helping moms with postpartum healing, if something doesn’t feel right, then you need to consult with your doctor immediately.
Even the newborn snuggles and remember to take care of yourself too, mama. You got this.
What things are you planning to use for postpartum healing?

If you are pregnant and want to learn how to have a minimally painful, fast and speedy delivery, then you need to read this post.
I’m going to share with you my secret to having a natural, minimally painful and fast delivery and the exact steps I took to accidentally have the easiest labor and delivery experience ever.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a first-time mom or have given birth before. This method can be helpful for all expectant mothers who want to have a fast and easy birthing experience.
In order to truly understand just how powerful this method can be, I highly recommend you read Leo’s crazy birth story.
His birth was literally like the movie births which are never realistic. I never imagined crowning while trying to use the bathroom but that is just how fast it all happened. Wild.
Trust me, this story will not disappoint and you have to read it to believe it.
After hearing about Leo’s birth, the question I get asked the most is how on earth did I manage to deliver my baby so quickly and easily?
I could not believe how easy and smooth my birthing experience was. Neither could my doctors. Nobody saw it coming.
My doctor said it was a medical anomaly a first-time mom to experience such a short, fast and easy labor and delivery.
My son’s birth took less than two hours. He was delivered naturally, without any medical intervention.
I know this sounds completely crazy but I experienced almost no pain at all during labor and delivery.
Can you even imagine?
Immediately after I drank the tea, using the method below, my water broke, and my son was in my arms in less than 2 hours from my first contraction.
The doctors and nurses that delivered Leo had a hard time believing this was my first time giving birth.
I barely had time to make it to the hospital and was pretty close to giving birth on the highway! Fun times!
Leo’s birth was very fast and a bit scary only because I was not prepared for having a fast and natural birthing experience.
My mindset was that I was going to have plenty of time to deliver my baby and that I was definitely going to need an epidural.
All my friends told me that I would need an epidural because the pain would be unbearable but I am here to tell you that you can absolutely have a natural birth with very little pain.
There are so many different things you can do to prepare your mind and body for a natural birth.
This method is just one small but important part of ensuring that you have a smooth labor and delivery experience.
My labor and delivery experience has taught me several lessons that I want to share with you, so that you will go into the delivery room prepared and confident.
The beauty of using this method is that it is:
Easy
Inexpensive
Accessible
Doctor and Midwife Approved
By the end of this blog post, you will exactly how to use Raspberry Leaf Tea to strengthen your uterus in order to make your birthing experience as fast and easy as possible.
Let’s dive in!
Women have been using Raspberry Leaf Tea for a long time to improve and strengthen the reproductive system as this tea has been linked to better reproductive health and is often referred to as the woman’s herb.
This tea is made from (you guessed it!) the leaves from raspberry plants and packed with nutrients.
Before we move on, let me answer the most important question of all; does this tea taste nasty like many other herbal teas?
Surprisingly, no!
When sweetened with a bit of honey and a squeeze of lemon, this tea is actually pretty tasty unlike many herbal teas.
However, just because I think it tastes good, doesn’t mean it will taste good to you.
Modify ingredients to make the tea taste good to you.
It probably won’t make you want to gag while pregnant, which is a great bonus!
If you are pregnant, then it is recommended to wait until the 2nd or 3rd trimester to start drinking raspberry leaf tea.
Drinking this tea in the first trimester can lead to contractions and possibly miscarriage so consult your doctor before consumption.
You should ONLY drink this tea to induce labor if you meet ALL three of the criteria below:
Overdue
Have clearance from your doctor
Want a fast and natural delivery
If you can check off all of the requirements listed above, and you want to learn how to induce labor with Raspberry Leaf Tea, then keep reading!
I’m not guaranteeing results, but this tea is worth a shot if you’re out of options and don’t want to go the induction route.
From what my friends have told me, Pitocin can be a nightmare, so this might be a better, more natural alternative to get things going.
I drink the Traditional Medicinals brand of Raspberry Leaf Tea, which is very popular and quite tasty.
This tea is full of some seriously good stuff. It is rich and vitamins and minerals that can boost reproductive health.
Some of the essential vitamins are:
Whoa! It’s pretty awesome.
Does this tea help women that are trying to conceive boost their fertility?
Yes, the properties in this tea can help women trying to conceive. Having a healthy and robust uterus is always a good start when trying to conceive.
Since the tea helps to strengthen and tone the uterus, chances of fertilization may be improved. A stronger uterus means a healthier home for baby to grow in.
Raspberry Leaf Tea is a very nutrient-rich herb which can help your body fill in some nutritional gaps, thereby making your body the perfect little home to grow a baby for 10 months.
This tea ea might be a great way to prepare for pregnancy by getting your uterus in tip-top shape while also giving your body a little boost of nutrition and antioxidants.
Raspberry Leaf Tea strengthens the uterine muscles, which can help speed up labor while also reducing labor pains.
However, it can also bring on contractions, which is why most doctors will suggest drinking this tea only after reaching the 3rd trimester or after 32-34 weeks.
Although this tea is completely natural, it is still a powerful herb. I would recommend drinking it once per day at 32 weeks (with clearance from your doctor) and increasing your intake to twice per day after 37 weeks.
You can also drink it during labor to help speed things up.
You just gave birth, you magnificent, glorious, birth-giving, life-creating supermom!
The last thing you want is a nasty cold or infection while trying to bond with your amazing new baby.
RLT can boost your immune system and fight infections since it is packed with vitamin C and antibacterial properties. Raspberry Leaf Tea might also help your uterus shrink back into its pre-baby state.
This tea can also help reduce postpartum bleeding and inflammation.
Lastly, all the goodness in the tea can boost milk supply! A huge bonus for breastfeeding mamas! Every little bit helps, right? All great reasons to keep drinking this tea after your sweet baby arrives.Raspberry Leaf Tea for Endometriosis:
The tannins in the tea contribute to its astringent properties which can help reduce inflammation. The calcium found in RLT can also help muscles relax.
RLT is found on so many lists of healthy drinks and for good reason.
It has many essential vitamins and minerals that our bodies need. Due to the potassium in the tea, it can boost heart health and lower high blood pressure.
This tea can also help keep your skin looking vibrant and be a good drink to sip on if trying to lose a bit of weight.
At the very least, it gives you an excuse to take a few minutes and have some “tea-time” all to yourself!
Recap of all the reasons you should consider adding Raspberry Leaf Tea benefits:
This is exactly how I prepared and drank Raspberry Leaf Tea which unintentionally kickstarted my labor.
I was drinking one to two cups of Raspberry Leaf Tea once I entered the 3rd trimester.
On the night Leo was born, I made myself a nice, steaming cup of RLT and accidentally let it steep for several hours.
I have a very bad habit of always forgetting to drink my tea and coffee.
I then remembered to drink it just downed it in one go (in under ten seconds).
Never did I think that herbal tea could be so powerful but it was. Before I knew it, my baby was crowning in a hospital bathroom!
Terrifying.
That is how my fascination with this tea started.
I believe that this tea helped to strengthen my uterus. Honestly, my natural birth was bearable. I didn’t cry, scream or even make a sound.
My uterus felt strong. Like how my arms feel after doing several sets of bicep curls. I think the tea helped with that.
The recommended time on the box for steeping Raspberry Leaf Tea is 15 minutes.
However, if you are desperate to get things moving, follow the instructions below:
Pack your hospital bag
Ensure you are prepared to go into labor (freezer meals prepped, child-care arranged, etc)
Make sure you are near a hospital, doula, midwife or birthing professional
Make Raspberry Leaf Tea steep for two hours or more (my tea was steeped for three hours)
Drink the tea in one go. Just down it!
Wait 4-6 hours to see if contractions start
Repeat every 8 hours until contractions start (which is 3 cups of very strong Raspberry Leaf Tea per day)
Following these steps might help you have a faster and less painful birth, without all the trauma that I endured. Yay!
Only do this once you are overdue and have clearance from your doctor to induce birth and tell your doctor this is what you plan on doing.
I make no promises. Every pregnancy and body is different.
However, if you are a desperate mama that is extremely uncomfortable in those last few agonizing days of pregnancy, and want nothing more than for your sweet baby to finally be in your arms, then this tea just might do the trick!
Happy birthing!

Despite giving birth like a boss, getting your breast milk to come in and keep it flowing can be very challenging for many women. If you choose to breastfeed or pump, then knowing how to increase your breast milk supply fast is necessary to ensure that you have a smooth breastfeeding journey.
The first few days after birth are equal parts awesome and terrifying. You are basically recovering from what feels like being hit by a bus and learning to take care of a tiny new human. You also need to feed your baby. Constantly.
Body parts you didn’t even know existed are hurting. You are running on such little sleep that you’ve thought about Googling whether dying from exhaustion is a real thing. No wonder breastfeeding can be challenging!
Moms should get a “free wine for life” card immediately after giving birth. Seriously.
Whether you are a new mom or a seasoned pro, your milk supply can take a nosedive at any time for so many reasons. That is why it is so important to know exactly how to increase your breast milk supply fast.
Keep these drinks on hand for when you need help with your milk coming in or to give your supply a boost if you start to notice a drop.
Now, let’s start making some milk! Okay, that sounded better in my head.
(This post contains affiliate links – I may receive credit if you purchase items from links on my blog. Check out the disclosure for more information. Thanks for supporting Sincerely Farah!)
Me, the first time I attempted to breastfeed.
The process of giving birth is stressful enough. Now couple that with torturous sleep-deprivation, having a straight-up panic attack every time your baby cries, and being deathly afraid of that first postpartum pee or poop. You might not be totally ~zen~. As a result, your milk might come in slower than expected.
When your breast milk does come in, you need to know how to maintain your supply so that you have one less thing to stress about and can instead focus on bonding with your new baby. Before jumping into how to increase your breast milk supply, we have to understand how our bodies make milk.
Essentially, breastfeeding is all about supply and demand. The more you feed, the more milk your body will make, right? Sounds simple enough.
Well, not exactly. Your milk supply will increase and decrease several times within the first 12 weeks until breastfeeding is well established, and can continue to fluctuate for as long as you choose to breastfeed.
Numerous factors such as stress, diet, hormonal changes, and even lifestyle changes can cause breast milk supply to drop. That is why it is so important to increase your milk supply as soon as you notice it decreasing.
When you spot the signs that your milk supply is decreasing, don’t panic! There are many ways to increase your breast milk supply production naturally at home. You might not be getting as much milk as you want but that doesn’t mean that you can’t quickly increase your supply. In fact, some of the methods and drinks mentioned below might even help you increase your breast milk in one day!
The best way to ensure that you are making enough milk is to keep feeding or pumping. There are foods you can eat and supplements you can take to increase your milk supply but none of that will work unless you are asking your body to produce more milk. Seriously, do not stop the flow! This is especially important until your supply is established.
I highly recommend pumping between feeds, even if your baby is breastfeeding like a champ. You will have yourself a nice little freezer stash before you know it.
Even if your baby doesn’t take a bottle, breast milk can be used for literally everything. Does baby have a rash? Rub some breastmilk on it. Pink eye? Breastmilk. Cradle cap? You know the deal. They call it liquid gold for a reason.
The more you signal your body to make milk, the more milk your body will start to produce. You can always scale back once your supply is established but pumping frequently is a great way to prompt your body to produce more milk.
Just trust me on this one, get yourself a manual hand pump and pump between feeds. I promise you will not regret it. It is probably the best thing I did during my entire breastfeeding journey. You can even throw it in your bag and pump on the go.
I recommend this Phillips Avent Manual Breast Pump to all my new mom friends. It is a MUST-HAVE, people.
Will you feel like a cow? Yes. Will you care? Not one bit.
This breast pump is life-changing. I got more milk with this manual pump than with my electric pump and that thing was a beast!
If you are exclusively pumping, I cannot recommend the Spectra S2 breast pump enough. An electric pump is great if you are pumping multiple times a day or if you power pump a few times a day. I used this pump probably more than a thousand times and it held up remarkably well.
I exclusively pumped for 11 months since the day Leo born. He was a premie and had trouble latching. This breast pump was a life-saver.
I was devastated that I couldn’t have a longer breastfeeding journey with Leo but I am so grateful for having this pump and for being able to provide Leo with my milk for as long as I could. It is very user-friendly and powerful. The price is well worth it.
This Haakaa Pump is also absolutely essential for nursing and pumping moms. I cannot recommend it enough! This pump is a gift from the heavens. You basically attach it to your breast while nursing or pumping on the other breast.
For example, if your baby is feeding on your right breast, you would suction this pump onto your left breast. Same idea if you are pumping manually on one breast.
This pump catches your letdown from the other breast and you end up collecting all precious milk! Every last drop! MIND = BLOWN!
The second best way to ensure that your breastfeeding journey is a success is by getting in touch with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant aka an IBCLC immediately after giving birth.
These consultants are legit and will do anything and everything in their power to help you breastfeed, including squeezing your boob like a lemon to ensure your milk is coming out. Trust me. I know that because they did it to me and I was grateful for it. File that under “things nobody tells you before you have a baby”.
They will also check your baby’s latch and give you so much valuable knowledge to set you up for success. They are literal heroes.
Get in touch with one ASAP if you need help with your milk coming in.
If you have already worked with an IBCLC and you are emptying your breasts frequently but still not producing enough milk, no need to worry. One of the best ways to boost your breast milk supply fast is by having super hydrating drinks filled with ingredients that will help increase your milk supply.
Staying hydrated is EVERYTHING when it comes to breastfeeding. Your body needs a lot of fluids to make milk. Not staying well-hydrated can decrease your supply significantly.
I know this is obvious but I will say it louder for the people in the back. You need to drink TONS of water when breastfeeding. You need to drink water like it is your job.
When I was exclusively pumping for Leo, I actually googled if I could die from water intoxication because I was drinking so much water.
I know drinking water can become a bit tedious. What helped me increase my water intake was getting a cute water bottle that I loved and actually enjoyed carrying around.
I love this water bottle, especially in Rose Gold or Ombre. In fact, I need this water bottle in my life, and I’m not even breastfeeding anymore.
I’m also obsessed with this Beast Tumbler that is perfect for cold or hot drinks (such as lactation tea). It even comes with two smoothie straws and a straw cleaner! Btw, love the blossom color!
In addition to drinking all the water, you need to ensure that you are consuming the best drinks to maximize the amount of milk you produce.
Drinks filled with electrolytes, vitamins and minerals, protein and lactogenic herbs can significantly increase your breast milk supply quickly.
The following drinks have been beneficial for lots of moms (myself included), but you will have to experiment to see which drinks work best with your body.
Now, what are these magical milk-making drinks, you ask? Say no more.
I know what you’re thinking. What does blue Gatorade have to do with increasing my milk supply? Well, the color doesn’t matter as much as the electrolytes in the drink. I think some moms just prefer the flavor of the blue Gatorade but you can try any flavor that you like. Some of the moms I’ve spoken to even said that their breast milk had a blueish tint after drinking a lot of blue Gatorade, so there’s a fun little experiment!
There is no scientific evidence that Gatorade boosts breast milk supply but a lot of moms swear by it. I was a chronic under-producer and had trouble maintaining my supply daily. If you are as desperate as I was, then drinking a bottle or Gatorade a day might be worth a shot.
Although breastfeeding should not affect electrolyte levels, I felt like my body was working very hard to make milk. I would wake up every day completely drenched in my own sweat. I’m guessing that sweating profusely might have affected my electrolyte levels just a tad.
I think that is why so many moms swear by Gatorade. Perhaps their bodies are lacking electrolytes, and Gatorade just provides them with that extra boost to help increase their breast milk supply. I noticed an increase in my supply after drinking Gatorade and I continued to drink one bottle every few days to help maintain my supply.
No cool superhuman blue milk though. *Womp womp*
Grab a pack of Blue Gatorade here and if you do try it, please let me know if your breast milk turns blue. I need to know.
Body Armor Lyte provides the same function as Gatorade. This drink is also designed to hydrate and replenish your body with electrolytes. A lot of moms prefer this drink to Gatorade as they find that it tastes better and provides better hydration and leaves them feeling refreshed and energized.
The low sugar calorie option is also fantastic for moms wanting to cut down on their sugar intake. The drink is made with natural sweeteners with only 20 calories and 3 grams of sugar per serving. It is caffeine and preservative free while also having 2.5x the number of electrolytes than other sports drinks. Apparently, the Peach Mango flavor is the bomb!
The reviews for this drink are so good. I’m definitely going to stock up on these for baby number 2 and even just for my very rare visits to the gym.
Promising Review: Staying hydrated after I had my little girl was so hard. I had no appetite and would forget to drink water in my exhausted state- not good for milk supply! I love that these are delicious and I can grab one quickly to stay hydrated while breastfeeding. Peach mango is my favorite! I love them so much I will be subscribing.
Get a pack of the Peach Mango flavor here and let me know if it tastes as good as people say!
Mother’s Milk Tea is a favorite among moms for many reasons. This tea is full of herbs known to increase breast milk supply. The three most important herbs in this tea are fennel, fenugreek, and blessed thistle. These herbs are natural galactagogues, which is a substance that promotions lactation and increases the flow of breast milk.
Women have been using these herbs for hundreds of years to boost their supply so it’s no wonder that this tea is so popular for breastfeeding moms.
The only issue I have with this tea is the taste. I didn’t hate it per se, but I didn’t love it either. It tastes like sweet licorice. I enjoyed the taste more when I drank it over ice with some honey.
I drank the Traditional Medicinals Organic Mother’s Milk Tea and took fenugreek pills the entire 11 months I exclusively pumped for Leo. Whenever I didn’t drink the tea or missed taking a dose of the fenugreek pills, I would notice a drop in supply.
Despite the taste, I would drink this tea again if I have another baby as I did notice a boost in my supply with this tea when I was pumping for Leo.
Promising Review: It’s been a week now and I am up to 8 oz off of one breast a session. I must say going from 2 oz I was scared I was going to loose my milk but this stuff is a life saver!
If you are addicted to Starbucks like I am, then you will be happy to know that there is a drink on their menu that breastfeeding moms love! The Strawberry Acai Refresher also known as the “Pink Drink” has been making waves in mom groups because it apparently helps boost supply.
The hype about this drink started a few years ago in a Facebook support group for breastfeeding moms and has taken off ever since. Some moms even claim that this drink helped them produce ten times more milk! Impressive!
So, what makes this drink so special? The drink is mixed with coconut milk which has, you guessed it, electrolytes! I am sure you could just drink straight up coconut milk or even make some yummy chia pudding with coconut milk for the same benefits, but there is something so satisfying about this drink on a beautiful spring day (or any day, really).
Sip on it while you’re out and about running errands. If you’re going to grab a drink from Starbucks anyways, might as well try this one. You will be hydrated, loaded with some extra electrolytes, and have a cute pic for the ‘gram. What’s not to love?
I found out about the Pink Drink toward the end of my pumping journey which I was pretty bummed about, but this is still one of my favorite Starbucks drinks. Will I be trying this beautiful, delicious, and refreshing drink with baby number 2? You bet.
Protip: You can make a dupe of this drink right at home! It’s so easy and apparently tastes a lot like the real Pink Drink!
Combine juice and coconut milk, top with frozen pureed strawberries and enjoy!
The entire Pink Stork line of products are extraordinarily good. The company was founded by a mom of five. Yes, five! After having five kids, I think she knows what she’s doing.
All the Pink Stork products are completely organic and come in sustainable packets. The lactation line is especially good and the reviews are outstanding.
A lot of moms love this tea because its filled with galactagogues such as fennel, fenugreek, and blessed thistle.
I really like this tea because the herbs are also soothing for baby and may even help calm a colicky or gassy baby which is a BIG DEAL! Trust me. Happy baby = happy mama!
This tea is perfect for moms who need to increase their breast milk supply while also soothing their babies tummies.
Try the Pink Stork Lactation Tea and let me know if it worked for you! The teas come in two flavors, Smooth Vanilla, and Herbal Mint. You can also get a calming tea that helps with stress and anxiety. How nice is that?
Promising Review: This tea is truly liquid gold!!! My milk production is extremely great! I have tried other products, however, this is my first choice and the only one I would highly recommend for milk production. It also tastes great!
You can also try the True Milk Breastfeeding Support supplements which come in capsule form. These supplements contain the most organic herbs than any other supplement on the market.
The herbs in the supplements actually make your milk sweeter and taste better so baby will want to nurse more. More nursing = more milk! AMAZING!
I literally want to have another baby just so I can try all the Pink Stork products. They are seriously that good.
Coconut water is a game-changer for breastfeeding moms. Not only is coconut water very hydrating but it is also filled with electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals which can help boost supply. I always tell my expecting friends to drink coconut water as soon as they get pregnant because there are so many benefits for both mom and baby that come from drinking coconut water.
Coconut water is rich in vitamins and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, riboflavin, vitamin C and Lauric acid. So much goodness in one bottle!
Coconut water can also help promote brain and bone development in your baby along with boosting your and your baby’s immunity.
I swear by coconut water for everything. I was drinking coconut water every day when I was pregnant and when I was pumping. It left me feeling so hydrated and hydrated while keeping the morning sickness at bay.
Lots of moms swear by coconut water as their secret weapon for breastfeeding. Since there are so many benefits for mama and baby, I think this drink is a must-have in your fridge at all times!
We drink Vita Coco Organic Coconut Water at home and have it constantly stocked in our pantry. I even give coconut water to Leo now when he has an upset tummy or is running a fever to help him cool down and stay hydrated. It’s the best.
UpSpring offers breastfeeding moms several lactation support supplements. One of their most popular supplements is the Berry Breast Milk Booster which has a blend of natural herbs such as fenugreek and blessed thistle. The product is all-natural, very hydrating, and is It comes recommended by doctors and lactation consultants. You can mix in the supplement with sparkling water, fresh juice, or a lactation smoothie if you want to switch things up.
The company claims that this supplement is ideal for moms that are pumping, returning to work, and want to maintain their supply, or for any moms who want to boost their breast milk supply. The supplements come in single-serve packets that are perfect for busy moms, and come in a variety of flavors such as Chai Tea Latte and Chocolate!
The reviews for this supplement speak for themselves and it apparently tastes delicious! I would definitely try this if I have another baby. Let me know if you try this supplement and if it works for you!
Promising Review: This product is amazing! Being a stay at home mom who exclusively breast fees, it has its challenges. I really try to get out of the house and be on one spot all day. Of course some days are better than others when it comes to my supply with a growing baby! I love the UpSpring milk flow! When I feel my supply drop due to stress, lack of sleep, not enough water, etc (you know, being a human and all.. it happens) I just reach in for a packet and sure enough it’s a great jump start. Usually takes a day to two to come back in full swing after about 3 packets. I wouldn’t take this product every day, but for mom’s like me it’s great for when I needed some help every now and then. I definitely recommend this product! Worth it.
Well, technically the secret ingredient to help boost breast milk supply is the brewer’s yeast found in beer, not the beer itself. However, a lot of moms choose to drink a glass of beer and have reported a boost in their breast milk supply.
If you decide to drink beer or consume any alcohol while breastfeeding but want to ensure that the alcohol has left your breastmilk, then I highly recommend these alcohol test strips. They are easy to use and give you accurate results in two minutes. Just put some breast milk on the strip and take the guesswork out of drinking and breastfeeding once and for all!
If you don’t like beer or would prefer not to drink alcohol then you skip it altogether take brewer’s yeast in powder or pill form instead.
Brewer’s yeast is a fungus that is used to brew alcohol and making bread. It is a very popular supplement because it is loaded with protein, minerals, amino acids, iron, and B vitamins. The nutritional benefits are likely helpful for boosting breast milk supply. Although there is no scientific evidence proving the correlation between consuming brewer’s yeast and increasing breast milk supply, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence from moms who swear by this stuff.
Brewer’s yeast is actually quite good for you so even if it doesn’t boost your supply the way you expected, it might be worth a try as you will be giving yourself and baby extra nutrition. You might also see a boost in your energy levels as brewer’s yeast is known to combat fatigue and help alleviate baby blues. Brewer’s yeast also helps nourish skin and hair, lower blood sugar levels, helps lower cholesterol, and can even help fight off nasty colds. Not too shabby!
This Brewer’s Yeast Powder for Lactation is perfect for breastfeeding moms. It is debittered so probably won’t gag while trying to drink it. Yay! If you try it, let me know what you think!
You have probably heard how important protein intake is for yourself and your baby when you are pregnant and nursing. Most doctors recommend consuming a minimum extra 25 grams of protein a day when pregnant and nursing.
Your body uses protein to produce breast milk and as a result, you need to consume 20% more protein when breastfeeding. Protein is necessary for your baby’s development and you need to fuel your body with enough protein to ensure that you and your body are getting the nutrients you need.
However, if you have an aversion to meat or are tired of the same protein sources and want to switch things up, then protein shakes can be an easy way to get your protein count up and boost your milk supply.
Before diving into a delicious shake, you have to remember that not all protein shakes are safe for nursing moms. Look for a shake that is low in heavy metals, has artificial sweeteners and additives. A quality, organic protein is your safest option.
I recommend the Baby Booster Prenatal Protein Powder to all my nursing moms friends. The shake actually tastes good, it has 20 grams per serving, and it doesn’t contain artificial sweeteners or preservatives. The natural ingredients enhance the taste as there is no chemical aftertaste as with some protein powders.
Promising Review: I drink this every morning and sometimes again at night. I LOVE it!! I add sunflower butter, ice, a banana and mix it with milk for extra calcium. Keeps me full all morning and gives the baby lots of nutrients.
If you prefer to skip protein powders, there are hundreds of clean protein smoothie recipes online and they taste so good. The recipe below is simple, easy, and delicious.
Combine all ingredients to a blender and blend until creamy and smooth. Garnish with banana slices and a few sprinkles of oats and enjoy!
Btw, oatmeal helps to boost breast milk supply. I was eating three to four oatmeals every day when I was exclusively pumping. This smoothie has oats and protein so it’s win-win! You can also add a tablespoon of brewer’s yeast to further enhance the milk-making properties in this smoothie.
I make this protein shake almost every day and even give one to Leo. He absolutely loves it. Such an easy way to get more protein into our diets and it tastes so good!
Remember how we talked about the importance of nourishing your body with essential vitamins and minerals while breastfeeding? Well, fruit and vegetable smoothies might just give you the nutrition boost your body needs to increase your breast milk supply. Lactation smoothies exist for a reason. They are a quick and easy way to fill up on the good stuff and help get your milk flowing in no time.
Load up your smoothies with healthy fats such as avocado and Greek yogurt and up the nutrition content even more by adding granola and chia seeds. Spinach and flax can help boost milk supply as well, so go crazy!
Make your smoothie extra creamy and cool by skipping the ice and using frozen fruits like bananas, strawberries, peaches, and blueberries.
Smoothies are not just good for you, but they are also amazing for your baby. All the goodness and nutrition you consume will be passed onto your little one. A good smoothie will also keep you full and satisfied for a long time. Trust me, getting hangry while breastfeeding is a real thing. Your body is using a lot of energy and burning a lot of calories to produce milk. Staying nourished and hydrated is the best way to ensure that your body has the tools it needs to produce breast milk.
I made the smoothie recipe below by accident one day because I only used the recipes I had on hand. It had quickly become a household favorite and I get requests to make it all the time. It is one of my favorite smoothie recipes and makes me feel like I’m having a Piña colada on the beach!
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until creamy and smooth. Garnish with a slice of pineapple or some fresh fruit and enjoy!
You can also drink this smoothie and fantasize that you’re on a tropical beach somewhere, while, in reality, your baby is literally destroying your house behind you. It works like a charm for me!
Pretty much.
Now that you know about the 10 drinks that will help increase your breast milk supply fast, which one will you try? Remember that our bodies are different and everyone will have different results. It’s all about trial and error. No wonder which drinks you try, remember that feeding your baby frequently and staying hydrated is essential to producing breast milk. Also, try to pump frequently until your supply is established.
The initial work and commitment to breastfeeding can be very hard, especially in the early stages of breastfeeding. Once your supply is established, and your milk is flowing abundantly, you will feel so good knowing that all the hard work and effort you’ve put into producing milk is paying off.
I still have so much guilt for not being able to produce more milk for Leo when I was exclusively pumping.
I regret not working harder on his latch so that he would nurse directly.
There are so many things that I wish I could change about my breastfeeding journey as a first-time mom.
I thought I was such a failure and let myself become overwhelmed with guilt every day because I felt like my body I couldn’t do what it was meant to do.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Leo is a healthy, happy, thriving little boy and it didn’t matter how he was being fed in the end.
Looking back now, I realized that I was not a failure and I tried my best to feed and nourish my son.
I think it’s extremely important to start a conversation about how sometimes our bodies don’t perform the way we expect them to do.
Your milk doesn’t come flowing immediately after giving birth.
Breastfeeding is hard. Pumping is hard. Being a mom is hard.
It’s all very challenging and we need to step back and realize that it’s okay to go at our own pace, change course if necessary and ask for help.
Let me know what you’re going through.
What food or drink is your go-to when you notice a decrease in your breast milk supply?
Do you have a secret to boosting breast milk supply? Let me know!
Are there certain foods you eat or any supplements you take that have helped you increase your breast milk supply?
Have you noticed a difference in your supply after pumping between sessions?
I hope that you share your experience with me and I would love to hear about anything you would have done differently or anything that you did throughout your breastfeeding journey that you’re really proud of.
You’ve got this, mama.

I started researching all the natural approaches that I could take to boost my fertility. The most common recommendation that I came across was changing my diet. Essentially, cleaning your insides so that your system is ready and pure for housing your growing baby.
Along with boosting my fertility, I ended up losing weight, having super shiny hair and glowing skin! Seriously, this “fertility diet” is life, even when you’re not trying to get pregnant! After eating these foods consistently and exercising regularly for about six months, BAM, I got pregnant the first time I tried! I couldn’t believe it! Neither could my husband…or my mom…or my doctor but I digress. So what sort of fertility goodness did I consume, you ask? Let’s get into it!

Leafy greens are high in folic acid and iron, both of which are essential when trying to get pregnant. Folic acid has multiple benefits for your baby. Folate is also excellent for boosting sperm health and creating healthy eggs. Optimal iron levels are especially important when trying to conceive as many women lose quite a bit of blood and nutrients during menstruation. Having good iron stores will create a stronger endometrial lining, which is great because that’s where your baby will live for about 40 weeks!
Enjoy leafy greens as a salad, in sandwiches, by juicing or my favorite, in smoothies!
Pro-tip: If you aren’t obsessed with the idea of eating a giant bowl of leafy greens every day or simply don’t have the time, try a Superfood Powder like this one.
Holy guacamole! Avocados are life. Literally, they can help you bring life into the world. Avocados are having a moment right now and for good reason. It is the ultimate superfood. I recently found out that avocados are the closest food to human breast milk. Mind. Blown. Avos have it all; folic acid, fiber, antioxidants, vitamin A and Vitamin E, which helps build a healthy endometrial lining in the uterus. Avocados also have Vitamin K which helps your body absorb nutrients and helps balance your hormones. Avocados have the good kind of fat. All of this avo-goodness is associated with lower infertility and higher rates of success with IVF. There’s very little that avocados can’t do. We should seriously consider renaming this magical to fruit avo-CAN-DO! Ok. I’ll stop.
Enjoy it on its own, make avocado toast (obviously), blend it up in a smoothie, top it on a salad. Honestly, I’m sure you know how to enjoy avocado. Just writing about it is making me want to eat some immediately. You know what they say; when you’ve hit guac bottom, there’s nowhere to go but up! Okay, I will stop for real this time.
Delicious. Nutritious and filled with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omegas can be very beneficial for ovulation and embryo quality as well as producing healthier sperm. DHA is also super important for your baby’s developing eyes and brain. Research also shows that eating more fish can lead to couples having more sex and having more sex means a better chance of conception! No wonder salmon is one of the best foods that increase fertility!
Try it grilled or roasted with some cherry tomatoes and asparagus. Or you could load up on some sushi because if you’re like me, then you will miss it dearly during pregnancy. If you’re not into the fishy taste, try making salmon cakes and eat as a burger! Om. Nom. Nom.
Full-fat is all the rage right now. It turns out that our bodies need fat, especially when trying to boost fertility. Greek Yogurt is a superfood because you get so much good stuff in just one bowl. Calcium, probiotics, protein and Vitamin D, which helps to mature the follicles in your ovaries, regulating menstrual cycles and balancing hormones.
Honestly, Greek Yogurt is so delicious that I can eat an entire tub of it in one sitting. If that’s not your thing, try it in a smoothie to add a creamy texture. Use it in cooking. Substitute for sour cream when making fajitas, make yogurt parfait or add a heaping dollop on top of some fresh fruit. Delish.
I’m not a fan of eggs, but I tried my best to load up on them when I was trying to conceive. I substituted veggie omelets in place of my morning cereal and found that I was fuller for longer and had more energy throughout the day. Eggs are an essential part of the fertility diet because they have loads of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, which can improve follicle quality in your ovaries and prevent neural tube defects.
Vitamin D is especially important when trying to conceive, and eggs have a pretty good amount. Some even say that eggs are nature’s multivitamin because the yolk has so many vitamins, Omega-3 fatty acids, and DHA. DO NOT skip the yolk! It is important to eat organic, free-range eggs because those eggs contain a whole lot more omega-3 fatty acids than the factory-farmed eggs.
Eggs can be eaten at any time of the day, as a meal or as a snack. Pack a protein box when you’re on the go, with a couple of hardboiled eggs, a mandarin orange, a handful of nuts and some berries. This little snack box is full of fertility-boosting foods, and it will keep you full and energized. On weekends, try making an Instagram-worthy brunch with egg frittatas or Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and avocado toast. You will be the talk of the ‘Gram!
Berries are nature’s little gifts to us. Raspberries and blueberries have antioxidants which can influence egg quality while protecting your reproductive system from cell damage. Antioxidants also act as inflammatory agents which can help with ovulation and conception. Just a half cup of berries a day is ideal for women that are trying to conceive.
Berries are the perfect addition to smoothies, salads, muffins, toppings on cereals and yogurt. Grab a handful and enjoy!
Beans and lentils are a great way to add plant-based protein to your diet. The fiber and B vitamins found in these proteins are high in folate and iron. The fiber helps regulate hormones by removing excess hormones in the body. The antioxidants help with inflammation, and the numerous other vitamins and minerals help improve follicle quality during conception.
Try making hearty soups, stews, or chilies or a chickpea salad. Serve black or kidney beans with eggs and tortillas or make a yummy burrito. The possibilities are endless!
Like lentils and beans, oats provide B vitamins and fiber which are essential in the fertility diet. Slow-releasing carbs are much better than refined carbs as they keep you fuller for longer and more energized. Refined carbs can also decrease fertility rates so sticking with this tried and true breakfast staple is a great way to ensure that you are getting your protein, fiber, and vitamins while also getting your carb fix.
Citrus fruits are so much more than just Vitamin C. Most citrus fruits have calcium, folate and B vitamins which can regulate ovulation and create a healthy environment for your eggs. Vitamin C is also essential for the absorption of iron and is high in bioflavonoids, which can improve the health of the uterus. We’ve talked about the importance of anti-inflammatories when trying to conceive and citrus has tons of anti-inflammatory properties which can also boost fertility.
Did you know that kiwi, papaya, and guava are surprisingly high in Vitamin C? It’s not always about the oranges and grapefruits, although those are pretty great too!
Olive oil is a powerful fertility-boosting agent because it is made up of monounsaturated fat. Studies have also found a positive link between having a diet high in good fats and higher rates of fertility, especially in women undergoing IVF. Healthy fats are also great for achieving hormonal balance and even stress management. Our bodies need healthy fats to thrive, especially when trying to get pregnant, which is why it is one of the best foods that increase fertility. Many doctors and nutritionists recommend a Mediterranean diet when trying to conceive because of all the good fats.
You can have olive oil in so many ways. Find a good quality olive oil and use it in dips and dressings. Top your salad or avocado toast with a drizzle. Mix with it balsamic and make a delicious salmon marinade. Yum, yum!
Nuts and seeds are so nutritious and vital for fertility. The proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and vitamin E found in nuts and seeds are especially important to consume when trying to conceive. Omega 3 fatty acids help increase cervical mucous production, promotes ovulation, helps regulate hormones and improve the health of the uterus. Zinc is an essential mineral for fertility because it helps to develop a healthy ova, balances hormones and can prevent miscarriages. Vitamin E is also crucial to pregnancy because the antioxidant helps support the uterus, the liver, and the immune system.
Nuts and seeds are so easy to incorporate into your diet. Try them on salads, oatmeal, and yogurt. Add them to dips or smoothies. Spread nut butter on your favorite multigrain toast. Substitute dairy with nut milk. You can also make trail mix and throw in your bag, so you don’t get hangry!
Now that you know what you need to be fuelling your body with to increase your fertility, hit up your local grocery store or farmer’s market and go wild! Try searching for a few recipes, so you have some ideas and inspiration before diving into your fertility journey.
Before even getting started with any fertility diet, I highly recommend investing in a good quality prenatal multi-vitamin. We can’t eat perfectly every single day. I live for cheat days and indulging in moderation is necessary for your sanity and happiness. Prenatal vitamins are so essential when trying to conceive because it will bridge any nutritional gaps in your diet. A good prenatal vitamin will complement all the foods that increase fertility. Ensuring that your body has everything it needs nutritionally will help create a healthy environment for conception. It’s also important to start stocking up on essential vitamins and minerals so that when you do become pregnant, you have plenty of energy.
I have an entire post written about the incredible benefits of this tea for women’s reproductive health. One of the main benefits Raspberry Leaf Tea is that it tones and strengthens the uterus which can help early embryos attach to the uterine wall. This tea also regulates hormones, helps with menstrual cramps and is also very beneficial for women that have endometriosis. I swear by Raspberry Leaf Tea and highly recommend it to women looking to boost their fertility and prepare for birth.
Green tea is one of the best antioxidant beverages you can find. You get a lot of great nutritional bang for your buck. Green tea is such a budget-friendly way to boost your fertility. The antioxidants in green tea can help improve reproductive healthy by removing toxins from our bodies. Green tea can also help eggs mature and be ready for fertilization.
Take some time for yourself every day and enjoy a cup of warm Organic Raspberry Leaf or Organic Green Tea with a squeeze of lemon and organic honey. I think getting into the habit of practicing gratitude, reflecting in silence and just allowing ourselves to relax is very significant to our journey to motherhood. Trying to conceive can quickly become a stressful and frustrating process. Finding time to reset our emotions is crucial, which brings me to my next recommendation.
Exercise in any form is beneficial to all of us. Our bodies are designed to move. A simple stroll, light yoga or even stretching can instantly uplift our mood. When considering bringing life into the world, we need to ensure our bodies are as healthy as possible. Maintaining a healthy weight is highly recommended for increasing the chances of fertility. You don’t need to look a certain way or be a certain size. Your body needs to be as healthy as it can be for both you and your baby. You don’t have to be a beast in the gym. Vigorous high-intensity workouts might actually hinder fertility.
Try dancing, swimming, cycling, pilates, and even tai chi. For women with PCOS, exercise is particularly important because it can increase the frequency of ovulation and regulate menstrual cycles.
I found that working out lifted my mood when I was trying to conceive. Every time I saw a big, fat negative pregnancy test, I would go for a run or pick up some weights at the gym. Working out saved my sanity during a very stressful time.
As mentioned above, trying to conceive can be a very emotional, stressful process for many women. Most of us don’t see the BFP (big, fat positive) after our first try. I went months without a BFP, and I was heartbroken, mainly because I have endometriosis and I genuinely believed that a baby wasn’t in the cards for me. Sometimes my period would be a few days late, and I would be so excited, only to get another negative. I would feel so helpless and just cry. Despite my feelings, I would read positive stories of other women that got pregnant naturally and continued on my fertility journey.
Chances of conception are much higher when you track your ovulation. I highly recommend investing in some form of ovulation tracking when trying to conceive. It will make your life so much easier. These strips are a great, inexpensive way to keep track of your ovulation. The only issue with the strips is that sometimes it can be hard to tell if you are actually ovulating since the lines can be faint. If you need clear and immediate answers like me, you might be better off getting a digital ovulation test that will tell you clearly whether or not you are ovulating. No squinting and trying to figure out faint test lines!
A basal thermometer is also very helpful when TTC. Women have been using basal thermometers for decades and swear by it. Definitely worth investing in so that you can be more in tune with your cycle.
When I was trying to conceive Leo, I searched high and low for an easy to use fertility monitor that would help me get pregnant faster. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything that felt right for me. I recently came across this awesome Clearblue Fertility Monitor that tracks your hormones and helps you figure out your most fertile days. How badly I wish I had this when I was trying to conceive. It would have made my life so much easier to track my hormone surges! This might be a worthwhile investment if you have the funds.
The pregnancy test struggle is real! I would literally take a test every other day. It becomes addicting, okay? If you’re like me and addicted to testing frequently, then stock up on a bunch of pregnancy test strips so that you can test whenever you have a hunch. Or just whenever you feel like peeing on a strip. Whatevs.
Eat the right foods, exercise daily, drink plenty of water and get lots of rest. Ensure that you are sleeping 8-10 hours every night. Communicate with your partner about feelings throughout the entire process. Go out with your friends. Have dates with your partner. Buy yourself a cute outfit and rock it! Be vocal about all your feelings.
Tell people your story. Do things for yourself. Be good to yourself. Know that you are on this path for a reason and your journey will be even more meaningful because of everything you went through to get to your destination.
Sending you lots of fertility dust!
P.S. I would love to know about all the methods that you used when trying to conceive. Was there a certain food or technique that did the trick for you? Share with me in the comments below!

Packing a labor bag is tough because you don’t want to overpack but you also don’t want to forget anything important.
I only packed a robe and slippers for myself. I didn’t even have time to pack anything for my baby.
Granted, he surprised us about a month early but I should have packed my bag by then. My bad.
After rushing to the hospital wearing literally a swim cover (it was the first thing I found when reaching into my closet), I realized that you don’t need to pack your entire life in your hospital bag.
In fact, if you’re anything like me, you will just show up to the hospital completely unprepared with a crowning baby!
However, you will save yourself a lot of stress by being as prepared as possible.
The best thing about not packing your hospital bag like you’re going backpacking in Europe for the summer?
The fact that you don’t have to unpack so much stuff and you get to you those precious moments bonding with your new baby!

If there is just ONE thing you take away from this post, it’s that you need this product in your hospital bag.
What nobody tells you about is the dark, painful side of giving birth that has nothing to do with your baby.
Yes, I’m talking about the first postpartum pee.
Legend has it that it is so much worse than actually giving birth. The pain, the burning, the agony of it all.
Literally the worst.
Luckily, my nurse told me to a peri-bottle filled with warm water while peeing to alleviate some of the straight-up torture.
Life. Changing.
I continued to use this neat little trick for a long time. Pretty much until my lady parts were fully healed, but what I didn’t know at the time was that there was a magical device that took the whole postpartum peeing thing to a whole other level.
This magnificent little bottle will come in very handy for that first postpartum pee.
It will help so much with reducing the pain from stitches and the overall soreness from you know, pushing a baby out of your vagina.
The Fridababy Peri Bottle holds more water than a regular squirt bottle and the curved bottle will hit you in all the right places (TMI, I know).
Seriously, this thing will be your new best friend.
Now let’s talk about all the must-have items you need to pack in your minimalist hospital bag!
Extra Long Charger
Can you imagine your phone dying after giving birth? Tragic! You will take approximately a million photos of your baby immediately following his or her birth. Pack an extra-long charging cord to ensure your phone is always within reach.
Your baby will be #trending in no time. Also, these extra-long chargers come in very handy when your newborn is sleeping on you and you really need to charge your phone but you can’t move because you will wake up your baby, and then you’ll both be crying.
Cozy Socks/Slippers
Hospital floors are cold and nasty. Pack some cute fuzzy socks for lounging or bring a pair of slippers from home that you are ready to part with.
Robe
This robe is super cute, stylish and affordable.
Nursing Bra
Nursing bras are life. I don’t even nurse anymore and still, wear mine. If you plan on breastfeeding, bring a stretchy, comfy nursing bra to the hospital with you. These nursing bras got like 7,000 amazing reviews so I’m just going to go buy a pack for myself.
Flip Flops
Hospital shower floors are disgusting. Pack a pair of cheap flip-flops for the shower. You will not regret it.
Nursing Tank
These nursing tanks are absolutely perfect for the hospital. I love that they aren’t super tight on your tummy either and the little design on the back is so cute! LOVE!
Face Wipes
Giving birth is like running a marathon. Painful and sweaty. These Neutrogena face wipes are a cheap, classic, cult-favorite. You will not regret packing face wipes. They will feel heavenly after giving birth.
Nipple Cream
I am legit OBSESSED with Earth Mama. All their products are the bomb. This Earth Mama nipple butter is EVERYTHING. This balm completely natural and safe for your baby to digest. It’s also perfect for chapped lips and diaper rashes. It’s seriously the best.
Fridababy Peri Bottle
The Fridababy Peri Bottle is a necessity. As mentioned in the giant, highlighted text above. Just trust me on this one.
Comfortable leggings
Need I say more? These $10 leggings with 6,000 positive reviews will change your life. Also, since they are only $10, you won’t feel bad if you bleed through them.
Comfortable underwear
I gave birth two years ago and I still buy these because they are the MOST comfortable underwear you will ever own. They are also perfect for c-section moms. I promise they are the best. The hospital will give you mesh underwear that you wouldn’t dream of wearing until you’ve put them on. Honestly, they are the best invention ever and you will be grateful for them. However, you may want to bring your underwear, in case you don’t want to feel like a bag of mandarin oranges.
Breast Pads
Leaky breasts will happen, whether or not you choose to breastfeed. These Lanisoh breast pads will prevent your clothes from being constantly soaked once your milk comes in. They are very comfortable and you won’t have embarrassing milk stains in all of your pictures. Yay!
Water Bottle
Most hospitals give you a tall cup with a straw but if you have a large bottle at home or just something you love and carry with you everywhere, throw it in your bag. Hospital air is dry, and you will need to stay hydrated.
Loose Blouse or Top
Bring a loose, comfortable top because wearing fitted tops might be uncomfortable (you will still have a bump) and difficult for nursing.
Comfy Shoes
Your feet might swell. After I gave birth, I could only wear Uggs. Bring shoes your swollen feet will fit in when you’re leaving the hospital.
OPTIONAL:
Heavy Flow Pads / Depends
You will bleed for a good while after giving birth. My hospital did not provide too many pads so check with your hospital to make sure that you don’t need to pack extras. Bring the heavy duty kind or buy full-on depends. There is no shame in the postpartum game!
Tuck Pads/Dermoplast/Witch Hazel/Painkillers
You will be sore in places you didn’t you could be sore. Tuck pads and witch hazel are supposed to be lifesavers. Throw it in your bag if you worried about the pain during recovery.
Heating Pad
See above regarding pain.
Raspberry Leaf Tea
So many women that I know swear by this tea, including myself because it helps speed up labor while reducing labor pain. Raspberry Leaf Tea is known to make the uterus stronger, which can help make labor easier. Pack a few teabags in your bag and sip the tea before and during labor. It just might speed things along and reduce your pain. I drank this tea and had ridiculously fast labor. I am confident that this tea helped induce labor for me. Here is my step-by-step guide on how to induce labor using Raspberry Leaf Tea.
Underarm Wipes: Like face wipes, these underarm wipes will come in very handy. These wipes are natural, infused with coconut oil and free of parabens and they will make you feel super refreshed before you take that first postpartum shower. These are also perfect for c-section moms that can’t shower.
Deodorant: Like the underarm wipes, also super handy. You will be leaking milk and other bodily fluids, so deodorant is probably a good idea.
Dry Shampoo: You might not be in the mood for a full-on wash and dry but will obviously still want to look amazing in your pictures. Dry shampoo is the perfect solution for a quick touch-up. is Also essential for c-section moms and moms in general because after the baby is born, washing your hair will be strictly reserved for special occasions.
Hairbrush: Your hair might get a bit matted from the sweating and stress so it might be best to throw one in your bag.
Toothpaste/Toothbrush: Travel-sized is perfect.
Chapstick: Seriously, pack something to moisturize your lips. Hospital air is dry and giving birth will make your lips super dry. Pack all the chapstick. Alternatively, use the Earth Mama nipple butter we talked about because it’s probably better than all the chapstick combined.
Hair ties: Because hair can be annoying when it’s in your face while you are trying to bring a human being into the world.
Your Towel: Your soft, plush towel is so much better than any hospital towel. Worth the extra space it will take up in your bag.
Face & Body Moisturizer: No need to bring the entire jar or bottle, just some travel or sample sizes will work.
Glasses: I was in no mood for contacts after giving birth. Glasses are so much easier if you are visually impaired like me.
Optional:
Makeup: This is a very personal choice because only you know what makes you feel pretty and confident. No need for the latest designer eyeshadow palette and contour kit, although I would be extremely impressed if I saw a mom doing her full face in the hospital right after giving birth. A bit of concealer, mascara, eyeliner and a touch of gloss can work wonders, especially after feeling like you’ve been run over by a train.
Blow Dryer and Hair Straightener: If you need to have your hair done to feel comfortable and fresh, then absolutely go for it. The hospital blow-dryers are entirely useless, so you might as well bring your own if you plan on doing a little something-something to your hair.
This little travel hair dryer packs a serious punch and you can’t go wrong with the price.
This mini portable flat iron under $20 can be used to straighten or curl your hair and will have you looking like one hot mama!
Footed Sleepers with a Zipper: I just love these organic cotton sleepers with those cute prints!
Newborn Onesies: Onesies come in super handy depending on how hot or cold the hospital is. These organic onesies are super soft, free from harmful chemicals and SO CUTE!
Soft & Breathable Baby Blanket: Muslin blankets are life. You can’t go wrong with this set of perfectly soft, super adorable, Organic Bamboo Muslin Swaddle Blankets.
Newborn Hat: Your baby will probably get a hat as soon as they are born but it will have blood and bodily fluids (I know, TMI) all over it. These perfectly soft newborn hats will keep your munchkin’s head nice and warm while looking super cute!
Simple Swaddle: If you don’t have the swaddle skills of the maternity nurses (I certainly don’t), bring a simple swaddle with you. It will make your life so much easier, and you don’t have to worry about the swaddle covering your baby’s face. I wish I found these soft cocoon swaddles when Leo was born! I always found swaddling him impossible. These are just so cute and look so snug and cozy.
Going Home Outfit: It’s always fun to pack something special for baby! Stick with something simple and comfortable.
OPTIONAL:
Diapers and Wipes (Depending on Hospital): If your hospital doesn’t provide the essentials, then bring a small pack of newborn diapers and a pack of sensitive wipes. I love Pampers Pure diapers. These are the only diapers that Leo hasn’t reacted to, and they are super absorbent. I highly recommend them to every new mom.
Baby Vaseline: Baby’s first poop (meconium) can be very sticky and sometimes difficult to wipe off. Baby Vaseline is mild and suitable for sensitive skin. It is safe to use for wiping and creates a bit of extra protection on your little’s bottom.
Here are some quick tips to help you get started on packing only the essentials in your hospital bag.
✅ Print your hospital bag checklist and tape it to your bag so you can give it a glance before heading to the hospital.
✅ Leave your hospital bag by the door at 32 weeks in case your baby decides to come earlier than expected.
✅ Pack a “maybe need” hospital bag with a few extra clothes and diapers in case you end up having a c-section or end up staying at the hospital longer than expected.
Keep this bag in your car.
✅ Pack your important papers and ID and keep it in a folder in your hospital bag.
Make photocopies of your ID, your health card, your insurance card, and birth plan and any other important documents and stick it in your hospital bag so that someone else can check you in if you’re dying from labor pains!
✅ Install the baby’s car seat and base when you hit the third trimester. Do not wait until after giving birth, as I did.
✅ Keep your toiletries in a clear gallon-sized ziplock bag to prevent leakage and so you can find your toothpaste easily.
✅ Bring an empty bag for dirty items that need to be washed when you get home.
✅ Separate your clothes, undergarments, and your baby’s essentials into separate smaller bags so you can just grab what you need instead of digging through your bag in the middle of the night.
These packing cubes are perfect for keeping all of your essentials neat and organized.
This list covers the essentials so I will talk about the things that are the most necessary items to pack in your hospital bag so that you have all the base items covered and can add other items as you see fit.
Camera and charger/battery: Dad will probably take a lot of photos. Have him pack the “real” camera if you have one and a charger or extra battery.
Change of clothes: Bringing a change of clothes is a good idea in case dad needs to spend the night.
Snacks: Watching your labor can be stressful for dad. Labor can also be very long, and you might want to steal a bite or two from his stash. A few snacks in his bag will keep the hunger pangs at bay while he stays by your side. Also, not everyone enjoys vending machine snacks. You’re better off packing what you know you will both love.
Water Bottle: Dad will probably start sweating just watching you in labor. A handy water bottle will be a lifesaver.
Formula: Most hospitals provide you with formula if necessary. Call your hospital to find out if they will have samples on hand should you need formula.
Breast Pump: Most hospitals provide breast-pump rentals.
Nightgown/Fancy sleepwear: Skip the cutesy stuff unless it has easy access to your breasts. It is very awkward to lift a nightgown or t-shirt while trying to feed your baby. Same goes for button-up pajamas. You will not want to fiddle with tiny buttons when you have a screaming, hungry newborn. Easy to pull-down tanks or t-shirts are your best bet.
Too many clothes for baby: Your baby will mostly be sleeping or nursing. Outfit changes will likely not be a top priority. As cute as those tiny outfits are, save them for home. You will both be much more relaxed and comfortable for all the baby photoshoots when you’re out of the hospital.
I know this list is still quite comprehensive but you are bringing life into the world and you will need to prepare yourself!
Regardless of what you pack or how prepared you think you are, the moment you meet your baby for the first time will take your breath away! There is no better feeling. In the meantime, get yourself ready for that incredible moment by packing your hospital bag. Yay!
Happy packing!
P.S. I would love to know what items you would pack in your hospital bag. Is there something that you absolutely have to bring to the hospital with you? Is there anything you think that I missed on this list? Let me know in the comments below!

]]>The post Leo’s Crazy Birth Story! appeared first on Sincerely Farah.
]]>Whenever I tell people about Leo’s birth story, there are several stages of reactions:
1. Humour
2. Shock
3. Horror
4. OMG’s
5. Lots of *feels*
Get ready for a wild ride, people. It’s a good one, I promise.
No, I was never scared of the pain of labor and delivery. My only anxiety and fear came from thinking about my baby and his well-being during delivery. My mama-bear instincts were starting to kick in and I hadn’t even realized it yet. I was not scared of the pain because I have severe endometriosis. The pain of endo is similar to labor pains, contractions and all. It is the worst! I’m no stranger to constant, crippling, debilitating pain. I have worked 12 hour days while bleeding profusely and feeling non-stop contraction like cramps. Essentially, I have experienced labor without having a baby. Awesome, right?
I think the pain of labor is monumental to our journey as mothers because that pain is abundant and intense energy connecting us to our babies and helping them make their entrance into the world. The pain signifies the importance of birth. I knew that when the time came, I would harness the powerful energy flowing through my body to connect with my baby. Instead of fearing the pain, I tried my best to embrace it. I knew it would be completely worth it and it totally was!
My mama-bear instincts were starting to kick in and I hadn’t even realized it yet.
My pregnancy was not chills at all. Due to my endometriosis, my pregnancy was considered high risk. I also had spotting from week 5 to about week 11 so I was always extra cautious. My entire pregnancy was very uncomfortable. I developed sciatica at around 16 weeks which made sleeping impossible. The pain started at my back and went down to my leg. It was awful. I also developed pregnancy arrhythmia, which I didn’t even know was a thing until I started having terrifying heart palpitations while walking my dog. I was straight-up terrified that I was going to have a heart attack.
At 34 weeks, Leo was sitting so low that I could feel his head in my birth canal. I kept telling my mom and husband that I was scared that he would come early but they just kept brushing me off like I wasn’t aware of the happenings to my own body.
Lesson number 1: Listen to your bodies! I cannot stress this enough; if something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Be your own advocate! Threaten to break things if people don’t listen to you! Ok, definitely don’t do that.
My husband and I stupidly stayed up until about 3:30 am on Monday morning. Had I known that my baby would literally be in my arms less than three hours from then, I would have started sleeping and continued to sleep from the minute that I was born. Lesson number 2: Sleep as much as possibly can because you never know when the baby will come and rob you of years, yes-years of sweet, beautiful, perfect, peaceful sleep.
Listen to your bodies! I cannot stress this enough; if something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Be your own advocate.
Now here is the interesting part; I started drinking Raspberry Leaf Tea around 32 weeks with my doctor’s approval. My doctor told me that the tea helps strengthen the uterus which makes labor faster and less painful. One of my biggest issues is that I have a terrible habit of leaving tea bags in my teacup, waiting for the tea to cool down and then forgetting about it altogether. I can’t even tend to a bag of tea without forgetting about it after five minutes, yet had enough confidence to think that I was capable of raising an actual human baby. I feel bad about wasting tea, so instead of making myself a fresh cuppa, I usually just end up drinking nasty, cold, extra-steeped tea. Normally drinking this type of very strong tea would be fine for a non-preggo but shit started to hit the proverbial fan once this tea was in my system. I truly believe this tea helped kickstart my labor and made my labor and delivery extremely fast. A touch too fast. I would have actually appreciated Leo not practically flying out of me!
Pro-tip: If you’re a tired overdue mama and you want your baby out yesterday, try drinking Raspberry Leaf Tea. If your uterus is anything like mine, your baby will come out faster than angry crowd running into mall doors on Black Friday. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to help induce labor with Raspberry Leaf Tea.
Back to my story. I made my tea around midnight, obviously forgot about it, and finally remembered to drink it around 2:00 am. For some stupid, unknown reason, my husband and I were still awake in the wee hours of the early morning. Although my husband and I were so tired, we just couldn’t get ourselves to go to bed. I guess this was the universe’s way of hinting to us that something big was about to happen and boy, did the universe deliver (a literal baby, that is).
It was only February 6th and Leo wasn’t due until March 3rd so my husband and I were planning on resting real easy for the next month. That night, we were going to hold each other tight, dream about our last month together as a family of two. At around 3:30 am, we retired to bed in our in a pristine, empty home, filled with only the sounds of peace and quiet. I’m still astounded by my own naïveté. If I could go back in time and slap myself for being so foolish, I definitely would.
I felt a weird cramp as soon as I got into bed. It was a few minutes before 3:30 am and I felt a tingling sharp pain in my uterus. Pain that I had never felt before. I told hubby that I felt a weird cramp and his exact words were “just go to the bathroom”. I followed his advice and used the bathroom and didn’t feel the pain again, so I didn’t think anything of it and came back into our room. As I pulled back the duvet and bent down to get into bed, I heard a loud POP! Instantly, water was gushing out of me like in the movies. I looked down at the carpet and saw water coming out of me. I almost passed out right then and there. The adrenaline hit me like nothing I’ve ever experienced and I started shaking uncontrollably.
I never wear pants to bed and this time was no exception so I only had on my pajama top. I told my husband hubby to get up immediately because it was time. He jumped out of bed and into his clothes in one fell swoop. Very slick! I ran into my parent’s bedroom (because they were living with us at the time), pant-less and screaming hysterically. My mom was also now shaking and screaming hysterically. At this point, everyone is screaming. The zen-like mood I wanted to set for myself was coming along really well. Not.
Fortunately, everyone else in the house was wearing pants. My mom followed me into our room, where I was maniacally packing my hospital bag while hubby was walking around in circles. Somewhere in between trying to stuff my bag with random items at arms-reach, I remembered that I should take a shower before going to the hospital. I ditched my hospital bag and jumped in the shower.
At this point, I was still leaking fluid and shaking uncontrollably. I managed to climb into the shower quickly rinse myself off before running out and throwing on the first set of comfy clothes I could find – yoga pants and a bathing suit cover-up. Perfect outfit for birthing – check! I threw a few random outfits in my bag for Leo. (I didn’t pack any diapers or wipes. Who needs them? I thought. I need them, I learned). We were out the door by 4:00 am. My hospital bag literally had zero baby items or aftercare items for myself. Reflecting back on this experience, I realized you really don’t need much in your hospital bag but having a few essential items would have been very nice to have. Check out my list of hospital bag essentials so you don’t end up scrambling like I did!
As I pulled back the duvet and bent down to get into bed, I heard a loud POP! Instantly, water was gushing out of me like in the movies.
Barely. I literally couldn’t move. I was in shock that this was happening to me and I knew that something was very wrong. We rushed into the car and prayed that we would make it to the hospital safely.
At this point, I was in active labor and my contractions were five minutes apart. Considering that the hospital was about an hour away, I realized that there was a very good possibility that I may have to give birth in the car. I was absolutely terrified. I did not utter a word to anyone because I didn’t want my husband and my mom to freak out even more. My husband casually asked me if I was in active labor. Trying to remain as calm as possible, I replied: “no babe, I’m totally good, we have plenty of time”. I obviously didn’t want him to drive any faster and kill us all, so I had to pretend that I wasn’t feeling anything at all. Meanwhile, I thought I was slowly dying a very slow, painful death. The contractions were coming hard and fast. My mom was timing the contractions and they became two minutes apart so I was starting to seriously (internally) freak out. I had about 17 panic attacks but of course, I didn’t let anyone catch on and continued to act super chill.
We must have had an angel traveling with us because with my husband’s stunt driving, combined with Leo’s impeccable timing, we got to the hospital in only 30 minutes.
Mortified at the thought of giving birth in the elevator, I didn’t even think I was going to make it into triage on the 16th floor. I was in so much pain.
Once we entered triage, I noticed that the entire floor was almost empty, except for one nurse and the cleaning staff. I approached the nurse as calmly and respectfully as I could and explained to her that my baby was coming. She said that I needed to wait until I was registered in the main office and told me to change into a hospital gown. She didn’t ask me anything about how I was feeling and didn’t care at all that I told her that my baby would be here very soon. I told her I really needed to use the bathroom, which I know now is a clear indication that the baby is about to arrive. She told me to walk out of triage and into the guest bathroom as the triage bathrooms were being cleaned. Then she left.
My mom and I were left completely alone in triage and I was bleeding heavily at this point. I somehow made my way to the bathroom and sat down on the toilet and felt this unbelievable, otherworldly pain like nothing I have experienced before.
Leo had started crowning while I was on the toilet! I remember the intensity of that moment so vividly. The sensation felt like my entire body was frozen but on fire at the same time. The pain was sharp and I felt it permeate throughout my entire body. I can’t explain the pain but it was so powerful and so overwhelming. Immediately, I started screaming at the top of my lungs. I walked out of the bathroom and the second hit of pain came and I screamed again. I didn’t even recognize my own screams.
My mom and husband were just staring at me from across the hall like they had seen a ghost. I guess they had no idea why I was screaming, especially when I had remained so calm this entire time. I realized that I had to communicate what was happening to my body so I started screaming “the baby is here, the baby is here!”. The color started to drain from their faces once they realized what was happening.
We were still completely alone in triage and I can’t even explain how worried I was for my baby. I slowly walked back into triage, feeling like my heart was going to explode out of my chest. We were waiting for that awful nurse that completely ignored me to come back from her break. Once she finally came back, she asked my husband for my registration papers. My husband was so livid and he just told her that I need help right now and to forget the papers. I suppose a doctor had my screams and came rushing into triage. Things started to move quickly from this point on.
The negligent nurse told me to get onto the bed so she could check me for dilation and I told her there is no way I can get onto the bed with my baby’s head practically falling out of me. She demanded that I get onto the bed so I hesitantly obliged. Very carefully, I climbed onto the hospital bed while trying to get my legs as close together as possible. At this point, the pain was becoming unbearable as Leo was full-on crowning. She went to check me and saw Leo’s hair!
I couldn’t believe the nonchalance of this woman from the minute I walked into the hospital. Her negligence was astounding. I am still so upset about the negligence because I could have had Leo in the toilet when the nurse was only a few meters from me. Just thinking of that moment upsets me so much and takes away from my entire labor and delivery experience because I feel so angry about the lack of care that I received.
I was immediately rushed into the delivery room and transferred to another hospital bed. The energy in the delivery room was completely different than triage. While the energy in triage felt cold, uncomfortable and unwelcoming, the delivery room felt warm, calm and peaceful.
It was time.
When I was brought into the room, there were already about a dozen people setting up. I saw the wonderful nurse who helped me a few weeks prior when I went into triage with a cholastis scare. There were several other nurses in the room and three doctors, including the one that came to my rescue. The nurses became my guardian angels. The amount of strength and reassurance they gave me was incredible. The power of nurses during that pivotal moment is essential because they are your cheerleaders and your coaches..
Before I gave birth, I read somewhere that babies make their way out of their mother’s womb, even if the mother has passed away. I thought that was absolutely insane when I first heard about it. However, after experiencing labor, I completely understood how our bodies and our babies are designed to go through this process. The whole idea is so strange because women shouldn’t even be able to live through this type of trauma. Yet, our bodies are built to know exactly what to do and our babies also know exactly what to do. It’s simply miraculous. There is no other way that I can describe birth.
I never understood how people just went to the bathroom and gave birth or gave birth at home, completely unmedicated until it happened to me. The baby will come when he or she is ready and the process cannot be stopped!
The lights in the room were dim. I was feeling rather calm and relaxed, despite the astronomical pain. The entire experience felt surreal. I felt like I was having an out of body experience. Time felt like it was moving very fast and very slow all at once.
I started using the breathing techniques that I learned from prenatal yoga while practicing mindfulness. I went into a state of calm and drowned everything out. Closing my eyes, I harnessed all my energy into connecting with my baby.
Istarted to connect with my baby. Communicate with my baby. Work with my baby. Be one with my baby. The moment before I started pushing, I distinctly remember connecting and communicating with Leo. We were both working toward the same goal. Leo and I were completely in sync. We both wanted to meet each other so badly and be in the comfort of each other’s arms.
I think that is why I felt so calm and sure of my ability to bring him into the world. There was absolutely no fear. Simply breathing and connecting. Breathing and connecting. Leo did just as much work, if not more work than me. My mind was blown. Here you have this tiny being, who doesn’t even know how to breathe outside of the womb, pushing with all his strength and might.
This little 5lb 4oz person pushed himself into the world with all his force. He pushed with every inch of his life, just so that he could come out and be on my chest, in my arms. What an overwhelming feeling that must have been for him. He didn’t know why he was doing what he was doing, but he did it because he felt in his heart that he needed to do it.
While pushing, I spoke to Leo in my mind and told him that I would hold him really soon. I could feel him understanding me and trying to push himself out even harder. When he pushed, a wave of pain came over my body. The pain didn’t feel like anything I had ever felt before. It was almost like an ocean of pain washing over me. Every single part of my body was vibrating in pain, from my eyelashes to my toenails. I felt the pain course itself through my every one of my veins. I continued to breathe. Deep breaths in and pushing out, without making a sound. I was determined to focus on breathing and communicating with my baby.
I forgot who was in the room. The nurses and my husband were no longer in my line of vision. I just remember seeing darkness and breathing and pushing. The room was extremely quiet with just the doctor’s gentle rhythmic reminder to “push, push, push, push, push”.
All of a sudden, I was overcome with exhaustion. A full-body, near death exhaustion. I told my doctors that I had to stop pushing and needed a break. They kindly obliged and let me catch my breath and relax for a brief moment. After a few seconds of rest, I felt Leo wanting to come out again and this time I was ready.
My entire body felt lke it had been lit on fire. I felt like I was literally burning alive. I was convinced that I must have died because I couldn’t fathom surviving that much pain. About a milisecond before I threw in the towel, the doctor said “give us your hands, give us your hands, grab your baby”.
I managed to snap out of my daze and stretch my arms. To my absolute shock and surprise, I was handed, my baby. My beautiful little boy was in my arms before I realized that I even stopped pushing. Just like that, it was all over.
The breathe I took immediately after Leo came out felt like the first breath that I have ever taken. I felt like I was born again. This time, as a mother. I remember the first breath I took as if I had never known to breathe. I was overcome with joy and an enormous relief. Leo and I bought took our first breaths together. We entered into this beautiful, complicated, monumental lifelong journey together, without knowing anything about each other except just how much we love and need each other.
We were still connected by the umbilical cord while he quieted down on my chest. I slowly started coming out of my trance. My husband came back in my line of vision. He was sobbing. The doctors and nurses were cheering for me. The doctors started telling me that I needed to deliver my placenta. After the pain of pushing Leo out and the endorphins spreading through my body, I barely felt the doctors gently massaging my stomach while I pushed my placenta out.
Next came the most dreaded part of this entire experience, the stitches. Oh. My. God. The. Stitches. I had a second-degree tear. The doctors gave me a local injection which did absolutely nothing to ease my pain.
I felt like I was dying all over again from the pain of getting stitches. I felt everything. The doctors then offered me laughing gas which I agreed to immediately. With Leo still on my chest, the nurses put a mask over my mouth and nose and told me to take a few deep breaths. Then the hysterical laughing started. For no reason at all, I started telling everyone how much I loved the Mindy Project. The doctors started laughing and I was laughing, even though I was still in excruciating pain. What an odd feeling to be experiencing indescribable pain while also laughing like a hyena.
The pain was becoming unbearable again and the laughing gas almost made me more sensitive to the pain because I was (for lack of a better term), high AF. I pleaded with the doctors for one more injection of local numbing and they quickly and happily obliged. After the second injection, I felt the pricking only slightly less but at that point, even a small amount of pain management was a huge relief.
Although the stitches were killing me, I would look down at my sweet boy and my heart couldn’t be any fuller.
The moment Leo entered the world was the moment my world stopped and the earth had shifted. Everything became slightly differently. I became wholly different. I couldn’t imagine how I ever existed without him.
Once the stitches were finally complete, the nurses took Leo to be weighed and given his vitamin K shot. That was the first time, Leo was separated from me. I was instantly longing to have him back on my chest as soon as possible. They weighed him quickly and efficiently and wrapped him up beautifully, like the most beautiful gift that I have ever received. The nurse then proceeded to hand me my perfect baby with a huge smile on her face, saying he’s all yours.
I felt so proud at that moment. Proud of myself for surviving this ordeal. Proud of my husband for rooting me on (even calling me a boss bitch at one time while I was pushing, which I’m sure were met with raised eyebrows from the doctors). Most of all, I was so proud of Leo for being so strong, brave and determined.
As soon as I went into my room, I started walking as if I hadn’t been through the equivalent of a severe car accident. The endorphins were still in full force, I suppose. I was a bit sore but completely mobile. I went to pee, which was absolutely terrifying.
My water broke at 3:30 am and Leo was out at 5:29 am. By the time I got to my room, it was almost 7:00 am. The next few hours were a blur. Since Leo was so small, the nurses kept coming in to check his sugars. When he was being pricked, my heart was exploding into a million pieces. I could feel the pain he was in. Since Leo was very weak and having a hard time sucking I was told to start pumping right away and encouraged to give Leo formula.
I will go into detail about my entire pumping and breastfeeding journey in a different post, outlining the lessons that I learned and my regrets. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have insisted on trying to breastfeed him before introducing him to formula.
We stayed in the hospital for one additional night since the pediatrician that was assigned to us wanted to keep an eye on Leo’s sugars and his weight drop. Since I was pumping and bottle/breastfeeding Leo literally every fifteen to thirty minutes, his lowest weight was 4lbs 10oz when we left the hospital and I was told he was within the range of normal weight loss. Being in Toronto, we were in the middle of a giant blizzard so getting to and from the hospital was a terrible pain.
We were cleared for discharge the following day. Leo and I waited downstairs in the main lobby of the hospital while my husband pulled up the car. I didn’t have any warm clothes for Leo or really any clothes that fit him. He was just so tiny. We dressed Leo in the smallest outfit and sleeper we had and packed him up with several blankets to keep him nice and cozy.
While in the waiting area, many people approached us and wanted to take a peek inside his car seat, which honestly made me extremely uncomfortable. My baby was less than 48 hours old and I had patients in a hospital trying to touch him and breathe on him. I tried to be as polite as possible and quickly gave several strangers a chance to take a quick glance at him which I probably wouldn’t do again if I was given the chance. I really don’t understand the obsession strangers have with looking at, touching other people’s babies. It is probably my single biggest pet peeve.
My husband pulled the car around, we clicked Leo’s car seat into the base and I hopped in the backseat with Leo. My husband slowly started making his way home. He was driving as if he was transporting a thousand pound of precious hold-encrusted diamond sculpture worth billions. Precious cargo, indeed. After a long, long drive through a terrifying winter storm, we were home.
I settled into bed with Leo. An overwhelming amount of exhaustion came over me because I had gotten all of two hours of sleep total in the last 2 days. I still felt a lot of adrenaline which kept me sane through the first couple of exhausting days. The moment I had been so anxiously waiting for had arrived and I finally met my baby. I knew what love was before I met Leo but this love was different. This love was something else. I didn’t even know that I was capable of loving someone this much. The day that Leo was born was literally the BEST day of my life.
The love I have for him is deeply rooted in my very being, my existence and my soul. Life before him feels like it was black and white. After having Leo, I felt like I was seeing colors for the first time in my life. He showed me colors I didn’t even know existed. He was and still is the most exceptional little human I have ever met. The love of my life. He is vibrant and magical.
My sweet, loving, kind and colorful little boy was finally home.

Sometimes beauty gurus will catch onto something totally epic. One such product, Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner has been making waves in the beauty industry for quite some time now.
Today, we will learn about why people are flocking to stores by the thousands to get their hands on this magical elixir.
So, let’s talk about the gloriousness (is that a word?) about using witch hazel as a toner on your face because this stuff is seriously good.
Simply put, it’s legit.
Your skin has earned, no, deserves the privilege of feeling this magical essence all over your face.
Witch hazel didn’t have to go this hard, but it did.
Witch hazel could have just kept minding its own business, strollin’ on by just helping people with hemorrhoids. But, no. That’s not like witch hazel.
Just when you think you’re stuck, out of options and filled with regrets, witch hazel will show up and will consistently be the one thing you can count it when everything else keeps disappointing you.
Witch hazel is all that. Let me tell you why.
(This post contains affiliate links – I may receive credit if you purchase items from links on my blog. Check out the disclosure for more information. Thanks for supporting Sincerely Farah!)
Before we get into the details, let’s chat about why witch hazel is a cult favorite.
Witch hazel is that girl in high school that mostly kept to herself, didn’t try too hard, hair always tied, didn’t wear name-brand or follow trends, seemed cool but nobody really knew her deal.
Until you bump into her like 15 years later and she’s now this insanely beautiful, wildly successful author, talk-show host, award-winning botanist and tech CEO who’s been featured in Forbes. Twice.
It’s also a plant with little yellow flowers!
As a result, you can’t or maybe shouldn’t just grab witch hazel and straight-up start rubbing it on your face (although that’s probably exactly how it was discovered).
I’m assuming that many years ago, a group of witches wanted some natural, budget-friendly skincare options (don’t we all?) and just started brewing this stuff in their cauldrons.
Literally, don’t want to know any alternatives to this theory.
This fabulous concoction is inexpensive and filled with antioxidants. No wonder people have been obsessed with witch hazel for centuries!
Back in the day, dermatologists actually used to warn clients to stay away from astringents, like witch hazel because they can be very drying on the skin as a lot of formulas contained alcohol.
However, astringents are back in the beauty game in a big way because a lot of astringents are now alcohol-free and made with soothing ingredients such as aloe vera and rose water.
So, how exactly can witch hazel help your skin look and feel its best?
There are a lot of reasons to incorporate an astringent such as witch hazel to your skincare routine. Astringents can be used to help:
Basically, witch hazel has naturally occurring compounds in it called tannins, also known as polyphenols.
Polyphenols are super high in antioxidants which is why they are incorporated into a ton of beauty products and anti-aging supplements.
The tannins help remove excess oil which is why witch hazel is considered a great natural treatment for acne and reducing oiliness.
Witch hazel can be used for various reasons, such as postpartum healing, as a scalp treatment and even soothe a sore throat. The benefits are endless.
The result? It’s like WD-40 but for your body, because it can pretty much fix anything.
Think of it as bottled rose petals that have fallen from the sky, laying tender kisses on your face. It’s also very soothing and smells delightful.
I would probably choose it in those “what would you take to a deserted island” situations.
There is a reason that this product has over 10,000 reviews on Amazon with an impressive 4.5 rating. Yes, 10,000!
Reviews. Don’t. Lie.
The best part about this formula is that it’s infused with aloe vera and rose water.
Unlike conventional drug-store witch hazel, which can be drying, this formula is specifically designed to be hydrating and nourishing, leaving your skin, soft, smooth, and smelling like actual roses.
It’s alcohol-free and free of parabens. Perfect.
Check out this product description right from the good people at Thayer’s:
“Rose petals, which, through distillation, create the rosewater we use in our formula, are full of natural oils and sugars that help restore dehydrated skin and bring out a natural, dewy, glowing complexion. The natural astringent properties of rose petals work in tandem with witch hazel, tightening pores, controlling oil production, locking moisture in, and keeping free radicals out. Rosewater is also full of Vitamin C, which is crucial for collagen production, strengthening skin cells, and fading blemishes and scars. Thayers creates the only Witch Hazel products made of non-distilled extract from the Witch Hazel shrub, maintaining the highest levels of therapeutic tannins, the mild antioxidants that help your skin look and feel its best. These natural elixirs have been a fixture in medicine cabinets for generations. Once you use them, you’ll know why.“
What’s not to love?
Now that you know about how witch hazel works, let’s talk about the benefits of using witch hazel as a toner for your face.
We talked about the benefits of using an astringent on your face to reduce inflammation and excess oil, which is exactly why witch hazel is so effective at reducing acne.
Acne starts to form when pores get clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Since witch hazel has antibacterial properties, it can help keep your pores clean while drawing out excess oil and reducing inflammation.
It’s easier to prevent acne than to deal with it once it’s already reared its ugly head. Witch hazel cleans and tightens skin, while also shrinking pores.
Using witch hazel can prevent irritants and bacteria from entering your pores, and as a result, fighting acne before it even begins to form.
If you are suffering from acne, witch hazel can reduce redness and inflammation and speed up the healing of scars and scabs, while balancing the skins pH level.
Your skin should not feel oily after using witch hazel. However, it might feel dry so it’s very important to use a quality witch hazel with soothing properties like Thayer’s.
Notice trouble brewing on your face? Apply witch hazel directly to the problem area as soon as it begins to form. Acting fast should prevent the issue from getting bigger or spreading and can start to heal the problem area quickly.
If you feel like daily use is too much for your skin, you can still use it three to four times a week.
You might notice dirt and oil coming off your face as you are wiping your face with witch hazel. That’s a good thing! It means that the formula is pulling oil and irritants off your face and leaving you with clean, tight, smooth and nourished the skin.
Not bad for a product under $10.
Witch hazel is a natural astringent, which means it can help tighten skin and slow down signs of aging such as discoloration, redness, and dryness. Instead of using products that are filled with harsh chemicals that can actually increase dryness and irritation in your skin, try switching to witch hazel as a protective measure.
Due to it is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties, witch hazel protects the collagen in your skin and your skin’s elasticity just as well as many other high-end beauty products, but without the steep price-tag.
Due to its affordability, witch hazel can be a great long-term solution for preventing irritants and environmental stressors from damaging your skin.
Witch hazel is perfect for protecting against your skin against sunburns and healing sun-damaged skin, as it prevents peeling and flaking.
Witch hazel can also protect against skin cancer and damage from UV light because it’s so high in protective polyphenols and antioxidants. These tannins and antioxidants can help protect healthy skin cells as you get older.
The healing properties in witch hazel also speed up the recovery of sun-damaged skin, while also fading sunspots. I recommend using witch hazel combined with a high-quality sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage.
If you need to treat a sunburn, Thayer’s Witch hazel has got you covered because it is infused with organic aloe vera.
Just soak a cotton ball with the good stuff and dab it onto your sunburn. You will get the healing benefits of witch hazel and the soothing benefits of aloe vera. Ahhh, sweet relief!
We know that witch hazel removes dirt, oil, impurities, and bacteria from the skin while also nourishing your skin with antioxidants and moisturizing properties.
Thayer’s is particularly good for people with dry skin as the rose water and the aloe vera infuses the skin with even more moisture and hydration so that your skin doesn’t dry out.
If you use a good quality toner after washing your face, it will actually lock in the moisture that entered your pores and create a protective barrier that will block impurities and irritants from penetrating your skin.
This is particularly important during the winter months when mother nature decides that dry skin is all the rage!
Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner is perfect to use all year round to keep your skin feeling moisturized, hydrated, nourished and refreshed.
If your toddler punched you in the face, like mine sometimes does, or if you walked into the door in the middle of the night, fear not!
Witch hazel will quickly take care of any bruises or scars you want to get rid of since it tightens skin by constricting blood vessels, which reduces swelling and inflammation.
I have actually been using it on a pretty bad burn with deep scarring from heating up tortillas! Ugh. I am pleased to say my scar is almost gone. and the texture of my skin is pretty much back to normal!
You can even dab on some witch hazel on a small cut because of its antibacterial properties. I am constantly putting witch hazel all over my cuts and bruises, my face and body for its healing properties.
Which brings me to my next point.
Since we already know that witch hazel works very well to help heal scars, bruises, cuts, and nicks, then it’s no surprise that witch hazel is the perfect solution to heal razor burns, rashes and prevent ingrown hairs. Ahhhhmazing.
Like me, some of you may even be shaving your face. If not, then don’t freak out! I don’t use a real razor or anything but I am a huge proponent of face-shaving. It’s a game changer. Seriously. Even Huda Kattan does it!
This is the razor I use, btw and it’s one of my main secrets for achieving great skin.
Back to my point, if you do shave your face or wax your face, or even if you are getting laser hair removal, then Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner is a life-saver.
Apply the toner after shaving to slow down any bleeding from cuts or rashes.
Burn yourself waxing? You know what to do.
Even if you don’t burn yourself waxing, Thayer’s is the perfect post-wax solution because of the aloe. Sooooo soothing!
The vitamin C found in rosewater will also strengthen your skin cells, and fade the blemishes and scars on your face while also producing collagen.
That’s why I prefer Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner over standard witch hazel. It has all the regular benefits of regular witch hazel but with even more goodness!
Who doesn’t want smooth, hydrated, beautiful lips? I always, always have super dry, flaky lips which I can’t help but peel to the point of bleeding. Especially guilty of this in the winter. So gross, I know.
Use Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner to moisturize, hydrate and nourish your lips with vitamins, antioxidants and aloe vera. Just a few drops will work wonders.
You can also use standard witch hazel for eliminating blisters on your lips, and even inner cheeks and gums. It can help heal and reduce pain and swelling from painful sores, bleeding, and blisters. It can even help with bad breath!
The puffy eye struggle is real. This problem is particularly applicable to moms, students, new puppy owners and, anyone who has ever lost sleep for any reason.
So basically, everyone.
For whatever reason, if you wake up with puffy eyes, witch hazel has got you covered.
We know that witch hazel tightens skin and reduces inflammation, which is also the secret sauce for reducing puffiness around the eyes.
I keep a bottle of Thayer’s in the fridge for extra rough days, when the bags and puffiness under my eyes look not-so-designer.
I love applying the cool formula to my eyes and face. It feels so good when it’s cool and applying the formula when its cold is even more effective for reducing puffiness.
You can even apply a few drops to some cold water, soak the cloth in the water and place it over your eyes for a few minutes to refresh your eyes.
You can also apply witch hazel under your eyes right before bed, to prevent any puffiness from forming while you sleep, while also making the eye area look brighter and tighter in the morning. Lovely!
Feeling a bit tired? Is your skin feeling dull? Need a quick pick-me-up? Spray or dab some Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner on your face. The scent of rosewater will have you feeling like you’re in a zen garden.
The witch hazel will invigorate and revitalize your skin while cleaning out dirt and oil from your pores. The aloe vera will soothe your face and leave it feeling refreshed, nourished and touchably soft.
Witch hazel can be an effective formula for treating eczema and combatting dry skin due to its anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties.
It can reduce itching, redness, burning, scarring, and even flakiness.
Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner is extra hydrating and moisturizing due to the infusion of rosewater and aloe vera.
Thayer’s formula might be particularly good for those suffering from eczema.
I get eczema but only on my thumbs, which is so weird.
I apply a few drops of the Thayer’s toner and mix it with Skinfix hand cream (my absolute favorite line of products for eczema).
My hands are much less dry and scaly since combining a few drops of witch hazel with my moisturizer.
I also really like using it around my eyes where my skin gets very dry and flaky.
I have noticed a huge difference since using Thayer’s around my eyes as the skin around my eyes is moisturized and has no more flakes. Yay!
Over 10,000 people agree that Thayer’s Witch Hazel toner has improved their skin in one way or another.
The antioxidants in witch hazel heal blemishes on our skin while helping the skin on our face stay clean, protected from irritants, and nourished.
It’s no surprise that when witch hazel is combined with rosewater and aloe vera, the results are nothing short of magical.
Many people using this formula have noticed major improvements for problem areas on their face such:
The benefits and healing properties of Witch Hazel combined with Thayer’s special formula really does help improve and even one’s skin tone and complexion, resulting in a smoother, hydrated, softer and clearer skin.
The overall consensus is that Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner will leave your face feeling soft and looking dewy and healthy. That’s what we’re all after, right?
You obviously value your skin and want to nourish it and keep it looking it’s best.
Thayer’s is a great, reliable, affordable product that can help you enhance your skin without breaking your bank.
However, good skin starts from the inside. There is no amount of witch hazel in the world that will give you perfect, dewy skin unless you are putting in the work.
Take care of your skin first by staying hydrated and out of the sun. Eat well. Rest up. Nourish your body.
Be happy. Love Yourself.
You’ll be glowing in no time.

You have lost sight of your toes. You have to pee. Constantly. EVERYTHING HURTS. Constantly. You are so tired.
To top it all off, you have people coming up to you and literally TOUCHING YOU as if they impregnated you. The nerve.
(This post contains affiliate links – I may receive credit if you purchase items from links on my blog. Check out the disclosure for more information. Thanks for supporting Sincerely Farah!)
Fear not! There are some pretty effective ways to induce labor naturally at home without subjecting yourself to eating questionable foods or running a marathon.
Make sure you’ve got your hospital bag packed with all the essentials!
No more womb-service little one, mama needs her bladder back.
The best way to ensure that you have a smooth delivery is to prepare your body for labor as soon as you get pregnant.
Practicing mindfulness, nourishing your body and exercising (especially doing prenatal yoga) will help you get into tiptop shape for the big day.
However, there are steps you can take to get things moving so that you’re not feeling anxious and uncomfortable for longer than you need to.
Although moms, including myself, swear by these methods for inducing labor, they might not work for you. Always consult with your doctor on the best ways to induce labor naturally before getting started.
The ONE trick that made me go into labor and have Leo in less than two hours was drinking Raspberry Leaf Tea. I SWEAR BY THIS STUFF!
I truly believe this magical tea sent me into labor and made my labor very short and easy (well, as easy as can be given that I was pushing a human out of my body).
Leo was in my arms two hours from when my first contraction started. It all happened very fast, people. My pain wasn’t even that bad. Read all about how I almost had Leo in a bathroom right here.
If you’re ready to go into labor, check out my step-by-step method of inducing labor using Raspberry Leaf tea.
If there is ONE thing you try from this list, let it be this tea. Even if it doesn’t induce labor for you, this tea will help you tone and strengthen your uterus which can help make labor easier, faster and more efficient. It’s even recommended by doctors and midwives. Seriously, give it a go!
As I said above, Raspberry Leaf Tea is excellent for strengthening your uterus. This tea is the real deal and if you talk to any midwife or doula, they will tell you the importance of this tea for preparing your body for labor.
This study shows that RLT helps make labor shorter and women who drank this tea need fewer medical interventions, including c-sections. The anecdotal evidence is also overwhelming. It’s sort of a best-kept mom secret. I cannot recommend this tea enough. I drink the Traditional Medicinals Organic Raspberry Leaf Tea. It doesn’t even taste bad! Yay!
In my third trimester, Leo was sitting so low on my pelvis and I could barely walk. Every step I took was agony.
Somehow, I still managed to stay active toward the end of my pregnancy. I took daily walks in the mall since it was the dead of winter and moved around as much as I could at home.
You don’t have to push yourself too hard or even exercise for very long. The objective is to keep moving comfortably so that you are widening your cervix and loosening the joints in your pelvis.
Light exercise will actually make labor easier so staying active, especially in the last trimester is super important. Throw on some cute yoga pants (these ones are life-changing, btw) and try the following exercises.
Walking: Taking a brisk walk for 20-30 minutes at a time is a great start if you’re not one of those moms on Instagram that have abs even though they are 9 months pregnant. Seriously, what is their secret??? I look more pregnant than them after eating a burrito! If you are one of those moms, then please teach me your ways.
Anyhow, back to walking. Wear comfy shoes, put on your headphones and imagine how cute you and your baby will look taking strolls around the neighborhood. Adorable!
Exercise ball: If you don’t have an exercise ball, you need to get one immediately. Exercise balls are life. You can literally just sit on it and bounce away while binging on ice cream and Netflix.
If you want to do more than just bounce on the exercise ball, there are several exercises you can do on the ball to help induce labor naturally.
You can even use the ball while laboring for extra relief.
Important (possibly life-saving) Protip: Exercise balls are a miracle sent from the heavens during those early, sleep deprived days when you have no idea why your baby is crying instead of sleeping. Bounce on the ball with your baby and he or she will be sleeping in no time, which means that you will also be sleeping…eventually.
Actual footage of me exercising while pregnant.
Squatting: For obvious reasons, squatting is one of the best ways to bring on labor. Try doing some gentle squats which will help push your baby down and may even help break your water. You can lean against a wall for your squats if you feel too much pressure.
Butterfly stretch: Simply sit on the floor, place your feet together (don’t cross your legs) and press your knees to the floor to feel the stretch inside your thighs and pelvis. You can lean against a wall for extra support. Try to hold the position for 10-15 seconds and repeat a few times. These stretches are a great way to open up the pelvic region and loosen the pelvic joints.
Lunges: You might need your partner for this one. Lunging is a great way to induce labor naturally as the motion will help move your baby into the birth canal. Use support if you need to and try to go into a deep-lunge to expand your hips.
Kegals: Listen, I’m no fan of doing Kegals but they sort of become an essential part of postpartum life to prevent *ahem* accidents. Kegals can be an effective way to induce labor naturally while also making laboring easier as Kegals strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. Do them, whenever, wherever!
Pelvic rocks: Another great way to get labor started. Simply lie on the floor, bend your knees and tilt your pelvis up, hold for 10 seconds and slowly release. Repeat for as long as you can. This exercise is perfect for opening up your pelvic joints and preparing your body for labor. Try it out!
Stairs: Not in the mood for exercising? Using the stairs is a simple way to get your pelvic joints moving while lowering your baby into the birth canal.
Oils can be very effective for inducing labor naturally, especially castor oil.
Castor oil is essentially a laxative that causes contractions in the bowels which can cause uterine contractions as well. However, and this is important, you have to follow a very specific method of ingesting castor oil if you want to induce labor naturally without getting sick.
Castor oil is nasty. Plain and simple. Lots of women get super desperate to bring on labor and just down a bottle of castor oil.
Why, girl, why???
Just thinking about that is making me dry heave. Definitely, DO NOT do that because you will get very sick. If you do decide to go the castor oil route, this is what you need to do.
You might feel the urge to go to the bathroom immediately after your first dose of castor oil or it could take a few small doses to get things moving.
The trick is not to overdo it because you don’t want to get horrible diarrhea and end up severely dehydrated. The safest way is to approach this method with caution and ensure that you are spacing out each dose.
Evening Primrose Oil: This oil can help induce labor by thinning out the cervix while also speeding up labor. You can take the pills orally or insert vaginally, or maybe try both! Some women swear by this oil so it might be worth a shot.
Clary Sage Oil: Sage oil can help you relax which is great when you’re overdue and very stressed. This oil can cause contractions and bring on labor, although the evidence is mostly anecdotal. Either way, if you feel like relaxing and want a massage, then I would suggest using this oil and demanding a pregnancy massage from your loved ones (not annoying at all). Mix one or two drops of clary sage oil with a carrier oil like coconut or olive oil and rub on your tummy and different pressure points to feel very ~chills~. Enjoy those massages because it may be your last for a very long time!
Acupressure is basically therapy that stimulates different pressure points in your body to relieve pain and stress. This therapy can also help induce labor by stimulating the release of endorphins. You can try acupressure at home or with a professional therapist (recommended) as there are specific points in your body you need to work on for the acupressure to work effectively.
Chiropractors and reflexologists are also lifesavers when trying to induce labor naturally as they can also stimulate the right pressure points in your body to jumpstart labor.
Acupuncture is also recommended for women trying to induce labor naturally as it can release oxytocin in the body.
I would pick one of these methods, instead of doing too much of everything. Worst case, you’re getting a foot massage out of it. There is nothing wrong with showing your tired, swollen, pregnancy feet some much-needed love.
Okay, you might not be dying to have sex when you’re days away from giving birth but there are worse ways to go about it instead of a little sexy time. If you’re in the mood, sex just might do the trick.
Sex increases activity in your uterus and semen has a substance called prostaglandins which can help thin out the cervix (this substance is also found in evening primrose oil). Since sex usually feels good, your body can release oxytocin, the feel-good hormone which can cause contractions as well.
If you or your partner are having trouble getting yourselves in the ~mood~ due to an actual full-sized baby being inside your body, you can try positions that might make things a little less awkward such as spooning with your partner behind you or lying on the foot of the bed with your standing in front of you. If you’re still not feeling it, foreplay can be just as good!
Speaking of foreplay, nipple stimulation is a great way to induce labor naturally. Nipple stimulation can also release oxytocin and if you have enough feel-good hormones floating around your body, you might be able to go into labor.
Oxytocin is a very important hormone because it not only induces labor but will also help you bond with your baby and help shrink your uterus back to its regular size after giving birth. In fact, Pitocin, the drug that is used by doctors to induce labor, is actually a synthetic form of oxytocin.
How to Stimulate Nipples to Induce Labor Naturally
Okay, this method always freaks me out but if you’re very desperate, you can ask your doctor what he or she thinks about stripping your membranes. Warning: this procedure will hurt.
I’m such a chicken when it comes to pain, even though I’ve given birth naturally so I would just probably skip this step altogether. You will have to be at least one centimeter dilated before your doctor can even perform this procedure.
Your doctor will basically use his or her finger to try and separate the amniotic sac from the cervix area by doing a sweep (this sounds so much worse than it probably is, or maybe not).
This method can be effective because it releases prostaglandins and we know how important that is. Lots of women experiencing cramping and bleeding afterward so proceed with caution!
The thing that I was most excited about during my pregnancy was my ability to eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted without anybody questioning me. This pint of ice cream I just downed? It’s for the baby? French fries? Baby needs it. Do I really need a chocolate milkshake? Yup, the baby asked for it. I called it “womb-service”.
There are a lot of different foods you can try to induce labor naturally and most of them are pretty delicious! Let’s go through some of them!
Sweet Foods to Induce Labor Naturally
Pineapple: A classic for labor-inducing women worldwide. Why is everyone obsessed with pineapples, anyways? Well, there’s actually a pretty scientific reason. Pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelain which can make your cervix softer and help induce labor.
You have to eat fresh pineapple and lots of it. You can also juice fresh pineapple, including the core because that is where most of those enzymes are. The evidence is purely anecdotal with pineapples and eating too much might just make your mouth raw. I would probably eat a few pieces of pineapple a day, instead of just eating an entire pineapple a day. It’s a bit much, don’t you think?
Labor Cookies: Okay, now onto the fun foods. Try baking labor cookies! Not only will this help pass the time but it might actually help get things moving due to all the spicy goodness. Here is a recipe that actually sounds very delicious. I am definitely trying these if I end up having another!
Labor Cake: Why stop at just cookies? Why not go all out and bake a cake? Okay, eating chocolate cake might not actually induce labor but it might release oxytocin because…you’re literally eating chocolate cake. Another great way to pass the time and you can share the love with your partner, neighbor, and friends! You will be hailed as a pregnant, chocolate-cake hero! Here is the recipe
FACT.
Savory Foods to Induce Labor Naturally
Eggplant Parmesan: Honestly, I’m down to go to this restaurant for their famous labor-inducing eggplant parmesan, even though I’m not pregnant. I’m guessing it’s the spices which can cause contractions but the recipe sounds delish! Maybe I’ll make it tonight for dinner…you know, for science (*shifty eyes*).
Labor Salad: Just like the eggplant parm, there is a famous restaurant in LA that dishes out labor-inducing salads. Apparently, the secret ingredient is the balsamic dressing. MMMM…tangy, sticky, balsamic.
Spicy Food: All types of spicy food are fair game. Chinese food, Thai good, jalapeno poppers seem to be a fan favorite. Really, anything that tastes delicious and has a kick! Spicy food might stimulate your stomach enough to start contractions but just don’t overdo it. If anyone asks why you’re getting takeout again, just tell them you’re trying to induce labor, obviously!
Starbucks Pineapple Kona Pop Tea: We know that teas can be a powerful aid for inducing labor and Starbucks has a pineapple tea that many women swear by. It sounds refreshing and gives you a good reason to get out of the house. Why not also pick up a cake pop or two while you’re there? Cake pops won’t help you induce labor but they will make you feel lovely.
Since your baby is still conveniently located inside your tummy, you might as well try and enjoy yourself a bit before the sleep deprivation begins. Try to distract yourself and stay busy so you’re not obsessing over how uncomfortable you are.
Wake up in the morning, take a nice walk or head to the mall for some retail therapy (what mom doesn’t need more adorable baby clothes?). Enjoy a delicious, spicy lunch at your favorite restaurant and then grab a Starbucks Pineapple Tea to wash it down.
Then, head to the nail salon for a pedicure and ask for an extra-long foot massage before making your way home and enjoying a little sexy time. Finally, eat some more yummy spicy food for dinner and take a long, sip some raspberry leaf tea while taking a relaxing bath so you can sleep well and have sweet dreams about meeting your new baby.
The last few days of pregnancy can be very uncomfortable and stressful for many reasons. Your back hurts. Your pelvis feels like it’s breaking everytime you walk. You are tired and sore. That is why it’s so important to relax and let your body do its thing.
Being in a relaxed state before going into labor will help you bond with your baby, boost milk supply and just help with your overall postpartum healing.
Try practicing mindfulness or doing yoga. Take a walk, read a few books, or have a cup of tea just to settle your nerves.
Talk about your feelings with your partner and friends.
Try to enjoy the last few days of feeling your baby cocooned safely in your tummy because once your baby arrives, he or she will rock your world in more ways than you could have ever imagined.
There you have it. Some legit ways to induce labor naturally! Have you tried any of these methods and more importantly, did it work?
I would LOVE to know if have used a specific trick to induce labor. What worked for you? What didn’t?
Did you eat a lot of pineapples??? I need to know. Tell me below!

Stocking Stuffers are the best, am I right or am I right? Stocking stuffers just add another layer of magical goodness to the experience of Christmas morning. So awesome. What’s not awesome, is panic shopping for stocking stuffers on Christmas Eve. I’m ashamed to admit that I have been guilty of doing this more than once, which is why I have put together a list of inexpensive and thoughtful stocking stuffer ideas the entire family will love!
There is something so fun and exciting about opening up your little gifts before opening the big gifts! However, I tend to get caught up on all of the other aspects of Christmas and then I am totally scrambling last minute to literally get anything but a pack of mints as a stocking stuffer. I know, it’s bad.
Honestly though, who has the time and stamina to fight brave the stores during Christmas? If that’s you, mad respect to you my friend. Mall parking lots during peak season don’t terrify you? Props.
Now, for the rest of us who change out of our regular pair of yoga pants into a “nicer” pair of yoga pants when we want to feel fancy, we can just go online, while wrapped in a blanket like a burrito to buy things that will make our family love us. Perfect.
This is why I love lists. Lists are nice and easy and reliable. This list is especially good because all the stocking stuffer ideas on this list are affordable, useful and thoughtful! Whether you are looking for stocking stuffers for men, kids, toddlers, tweens or even colleagues or friends. I got you covered! Your family will be thrilled to open up their stockings on Christmas morning! You got this!
